The Psi-Amp is not a conventional weapon in the sense that it does not fire bullets or projectiles, at least not directly. Rather, as its name suggests, it is used to amplify one's psionic abilities, allowing for the use of the various Psi Powers available.

The Psi-Amp does not have any inherent direct damage attacks, modifications, or fire modes. After selecting a Psi Power using your MFD, you can instantly use the ability, or hold down the mouse button to "overcharge" the given Psi Power, which effectively gives it a +2 Psi level bonus. Charging up the Psi Power too long will cause "burnout", and will both consume the needed Psi Points, and cause minor damage to Hit Points.
