Overview

You can loot the Deck of Many Things from the demon Aesgareth if you choose to kill him while you're in Watcher's Keep (Level 3). If you place the deck into a character's quick items slot, then that character will be able to draw cards from it. You'll be able to draw three cards total. The cards and their effects are described below. Only Donjon, Magician, Ruin and Void are considered "bad" cards. Picking a bad card will change which cards you can receive in later draws.

Draw 1

• Donjon (bad) - User imprisoned, can save at -4
• Gem - User receives Diamond, Emerald, King's Tears, Rogue Stone, and Star Sapphire
• Euryale - User's saving throws are increased by 1 (this is a negative effect)
• Flames - Balor and four fire elementals appear (worth 92,000 xp)
• Jester - User gains 50,000 xp
• Ruin (bad) - Party loses all gp

Draw 2 - Bad Card Picked in Draw 1

• Key - User receives Ring of Protection +3: The Warder's Signet
• Rogue - User permanently dire charmed against party (effect can't be dispelled; user must be killed and raised to fix)
• Star - User gains +1 to primary stat
• Sun - Party gains 300,000 xp
• Vizier - User protected by Mantle for 24 hours
• Void (bad) - User disintegrated, can save at -4

Draw 2 - Otherwise

• Knight - Four demon knights appear (worth 64,000 xp)
• Magician (bad) - User turned into rabbit (rest or cast Dispel to fix)
• Rogue - User permanently dire charmed against party (effect can't be dispelled; user must be killed and raised to fix)
• Sun - Party gains 300,000 xp
• Vizier - User protected by Mantle for 24 hours
• Void (bad) - User disintegrated, can save at -4

Draw 3 - Bad Card Picked in Draws 1 or 2

• Comet - User gains +5 fire resistance
• Erinyes - User gains +1 to all stats for 24 hours
• Fool - User confused and user's Wisdom reduced to 3 (cast Dispel and Remove Curse to fix)
• Moon - User gains 10 maximum hp
• Skull - Death shade appears and attacks user only (worth 20,000 xp)
• Throne - Party gains 1,000,000 xp

Draw 3 - Otherwise

• Comet - User gains +5 fire resistance
• Erinyes - User gains +1 to all stats for 24 hours
• Fool - User confused and user's Wisdom reduced to 3 (cast Dispel and Remove Curse to fix)
• Moon - User gains 10 maximum hp
• Skull - Death shade appears and attacks user only (worth 20,000 xp)
• Talons - User and nearby party members permanently blinded (cast Remove Curse to fix)
