Thanks for the replies. So, is nature not that much harder to level in than combat? It seems nature is more interesting -- as in, diverse -- so I'll probably chose that school for my farmgirl, especially since the buffs look like they work very well for a melee/nature "multiclass". As long as she'll ...

Some magic questions

Hello there!

I don't have DS yet -- it'll be about a week until the US version should be available where I live -- but I've been looking forward to it for ages (haven't we all). A shame they didn't make the game an actual RPG instead of a hack'n'slasher, but the modding community will hopefully fix ...

Arkanis is annoying, yes ... IMO, he should not longer spawn in Chapter 6.

But the cheesiest and most annoying critter whom you're actually supposed to fight is, without question, Balthazar. (And I'm not even talking about the Improved version.)

Damn, I hate that guy. Innate, unlimited spells ...

Anomen takes the prize in all categories -- voice, personality and lines. Can't say I care much for Haer'Dalis either.

Aerie isn't too bad, except for that inane "I'm tired" line that drives me up the wall every bloody time.

When starting a new game as a NG character, I've had some inconsistent experience with the starting powers, as well, occasionally getting some of the evil powers instead of the good ones.

An elf can be a F/M/T too under the 2E rules, yes. But this is definitely a class combo that I'd only recommend when soloing or maybe in a Bhaalspawn game (you plus Imoen plus Sarevok, once you can get 'em). In a larger party, that character would take forever to level.

Master of Magic II? That'd be interesting. I enjoyed the first game, though I must admit I never finished it ... while I can be patience personified when playing CRPGs, turn-based strategy is another matter. :(

Under the ToB cap, a multiclass mage could advance to 20th level, yes ... but with a party of six, it's extremely unlikely that you'll hit that cap without exploiting a few respawning locations.

In a small party or for a solo game, I'd go for the multiclass. In a full party, I'd prefer dualling ...

Imoen, of course, for reasons that others have already mentioned. :) I just love my sis.

Jaheira takes second prize. Her character may be a bit abrasive, but she's an old and true friend of the PC as well as of Gorion. I only wish she'd chat a little more about him.

@Zhar: Don't forget that the Zerth blade is a katana, as well. :)

Are you going to dual-wield or fight one-handed? If the latter, I'd consider putting a point into single-weapon style. In my own new solo game with a thief/mage, I do notice the difference between 5% and 10% crits. But all in all ...

I think any viable multiclass combo is also a valid dual class combo, and keep in mind that you can only DC out of a kit, not into one. :)

Popular combinations are kensai/mage, ranger/cleric, berserker/mage and kensai/thief. Swashbuckler/mage also isn't bad.

@Xyx: That'd be way cool. :) Are we talking about a scenario with 3 statues (?) who tell you that the "darkness within will be given a form of its own" that you must confront? I found that in the dialog.tlk file, and was really upset that it had been cut.

(Edit: Bah, my typing's been going downhill ...

As always, the question is: who else will you take along? Is weapon group X already "spoken for" by one of your companions-to-be? Is there a particularly nice weapon you'd like to use in weapon group Y, but no NPC is proficient in it?

Even if you're not using Carsomyr yourself, there are some other ...

True, you're still quite powerful as either a kensai or a mage, but I suppose what it comes down to is this: are you more interested in the ultimate result of having a slightly better fighter once you regain your kensai abilities (dualling at higher levels), or in playing a kensai/mage, meaning with ...

While Imoen may not be the most charismatic NPC, she is the one I like best. Loyal to the end, quick-witted, cheerful (even when faced with her evil heritage) ... my little sister is just a joy to be around. :)

Apart from her, hmm ... Minsc is also very likable in my opinion. Like Immy, he's loyal ...

My first BG2 character was a kensai/mage dualled at level 9, and she kicked ass all the way through SoA and ToB, both as a mage and a front-liner. Dualling at 12th or even 13th level just didn't offer enough benefits to be worth the time spent waiting for her first class to reactivate, in my mind ...

I hate Melissan.

Her place in the story makes absolutely no sense, she's as transparent as glass, and her voice grates on me something fierce. And the last battles are a cheese-fest on her part. Only Balthazar was worse in that regard (and I haven't even tried his "Improved" version).

Luckily ...

I agree with jeremiah. Blood or no blood, Imoen really is your "little sister" ... hell, she's referred to as an "eternal child" more than once. To me, she just isn't the type for rolling in the hay, and I couldn't have my PC develop that kind of feelings for her anymore than I could feel that way ...

@Metatron: Definitely, it would have been nice to have these powers in the game by default ... because really, the game may talk about you being "special" and growing stronger in your divine heritage, but it doesn't really give you anything to make you feel that way. The pocket plane is nice, yes ...
