I read about the Wheel of Time game somewhere before, if I thought I could get it to work on a modern system I would try to find a copy.

I don't like when a game follows the plot of a book, I just like being able to explore that fictional world, even though it never really looks anything like you ...

Book as a game

Anyone read any good books lately that would be good as a game?
I just started book six of "The Wheel of Time" saga by Robert Jordan and thought that the whole setting would be great as a game.

Then I realized that whoever made the game would ruin my image of the fictional world in the book and ...

After coming back and reading all the replies to this thread I started so long ago, I have come to the conclusion that RPG is just a bad label. We all know what a RPG is in our own way. So many games have come and gone which borrowed from other games that the line between catagories is almost erased ...

What makes a RPG a RPG?

I was just wondering some peoples thoughts on this. With so many ganres and sub-ganres of games I thought this would make a perfect topic for discussion.
Skill advancement, Orcs, feminine 16 year old heroes, or what have you.
What about games like Tony Hawk or GTA San Andreas. You advance skills ...

If its a party based game, I prefer D&D rules, but a solo game I'll take The Elder Scrolls rules. Both are fun. Biggest Problem I have with the ES rules is I keep remaking my character, D&D you get to have 4 or more characters in some cases.

In no particular order and mostly for nostalgic reasons, Dragon Warrior I, D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Shining Force, Suikoden, BG I, Asheron's Call, KotOR, Morrowind/ Oblivion.

Nowadays you wouldn't catch me playing a Japanese style RPG though.

Heh, I think I put those chronologically by ...

Temple of Elemental Evil wasn't bad, I actually finished it. Its similar to the BG style of play, but not as good.

Besides you can find the Sword of Omens from The Thundercats while adventuring, can't beat that.

If it wasn't for all the great mods and community content, I would just buy these games for 360, the gap is shrinking between the PC and console very quickly.

I still hum the music from Dungeons and Dragons, Warriors of the Eternal Sun for Sega genesis, the song that plays when you head south from the castle.

Dawn of War is great, i just lent it to a friend and he is hooked, but Homeworld, that has to be one of the greatest games of all time, and one of my first PC titles ever, wish I never got rid of that one.

Now I am sad....*rushes over to Ebay to find used copies of Homeworld*

Rainbow 6 Vegas is a top notch shooter, very much enjoying that one. I think I just like "fast roping" into enemy bases.

Easter Egg

I played this a while ago, one of my favorite games. Did anyone else remember finding the Sword of Omens from the Thundercats, it was just a +5 or +4 longsword. I'm not sure what the creature is called that dropped it, but it was like a "lion centaur". Pretty cool easter egg.
