I don't think this is true. My current character in HotU has all saves between 25 and 30 and he does not find most secret doors.

There are two wands in the castle, which cast the appropriate spells and are usable by any class.

Btw: There is a very detailed walkthrough here on gamebanshee, which will answer almost any plot-related question.

Well for Darkfire you need to be a cleric, and alchemical fire won't work on a weapon that already has elemental damage.

Btw, I never felt the need for Improved Evasion, since I hardly ever fail a Reflex saving throw, and I can definitely do without Improved Knockdown. At least I don't think it's ...

Strange. The Weapon Spirit just took Merkil's Hammer in my case, which was easily beaten down by my Shadowblade.

IMHO there are only two ways to play a Monk. One is as minor multiclass, get 1-2 Monk levels for the basic Monk features, free Cleave, Evasion, Deflect, +2/3 to all saves, and Tumble skill. A very powerful combination obviously, even if you dont plan to fight unarmed and unarmored at all.
The other ...

You wont even get enough XP for level 20 in the vanilla campaign, so don't worry. ;)
Another point to consider is that (for HotU) if you take 20 levels of fighter THEN take Rogue, you will have one more attack.
That's not quite correct. A fighter's attacks max out at lvl 16 anyway, because you can't get more than 4 attacks in NWN. You don't have to take that ...

On the other hand the Sorcerer beyond lvl 20 does not give you much other than better Spell Resistance penetration. So switching to another class might be more beneficial after all...

That was not intended as bragging, but as remark that probably all classes will have an easy time in HotU, due to uber-powerful items and epic status....

Well that is not limited to the Paladin class. My Fighter(/Monk/CoT) is just great cleaving his way through anything the Underdark throws at him with his +10 keen, hasted, true seeing, regenerating, shocking Shadowblade, dealing 100 dmg per crit.

A lvl 1 familiar won't be of much use later on, but then again your bard skills won't be either, probably.

If you import your character from SOU, Deekin will recognize you and even has written a book about your adventures in Udrentide, which has gained you quite a reputation. I don't know if the same happens if you import from NWN OC or start from scratch.

Concerning the RDD-build ...

I experienced awful lag in thet maze too, although it wasn't that bad. Frequent reloading helped too.

To your question: You dont have to backttrack through the maze, theres a 'rear exit' whre the dead wind is.

Tell Deekin to hold ground and then run past the fireballs. Once you made it through, the trap will deactivate, and Deekin can follow safely.
