Why are movies based on video games so bad?

It seems to me that every single movie based on a video game that has ever come out has been really, really bad. Or at least really bad. According to IMDb user ratings, the "best" theatrical release film based on a video game is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Seriously. I wrote a post on this ...

I am also looking for a new laptop that will be able to play NWN2 and other current games. I have done many hours of research into gaming notebooks already, and I'm getting bogged down with all the choices. I figured this forum was a ...

Warning: long essay ahead...

Okay, okay, so those of us in the (original) KotOR camp are all philistines. We like predictable plot lines and hackneyed characters, and we are too naive to recognize them as such. Those in the KotOR 2 crowd, however, are highbrows who pretend to understand nonsense ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "default" in KOTOR II sets Revan to female (in the conversation with Atton). So it shouldn't be assumed that if for some reason Revan's gender had to be determined, it would be male. Also, for someone who says the Bastila romance works much better than the Carth ...

Wow, it took me so long to get through this thread, I had to stop for a snack in the middle (While your character doesn't have to eat, remember that YOU do. We don't want to lose any dedicate players :) ). Anyway, I realize it's kind of old (I waded through pages and pages from over a year ago), but ...

I guess it depends on what kind of "results" you're looking for. If you're looking for things that stack like blaster bolt deflection, then you'll be better off with two lightsabers. But if you're looking for lots of damage, double-bladed is definitely better. If at any point you can say, of one of ...

If you're determined to fight it, I think mines and grenades are a must.

The easy way, the clever little way that perhaps you are supposed to do it, is to make it eat a grenade. You have to have picked up an item, "Synthesized Odor", which is found, I think, on a body near the rancor room, and put ...

It's not that important, just a message describing in part what has happened to Revan since the end of the first Kotor (having played the first KotOR, this meant a lot to me). The point is, if you set Revan as good in that Atton conversation, the holocron message wouldn't apply to your story, so you ...
So on average if you use 2 blades you'll deal more damage, score more critical hits and you have more options for customization of your blades.
If you use two lightsabers, you'll get more critical hits and have more options for customization, but you won't deal more damage ...

I played a female character, so I don't really know anything about the romance, but I did deal with the whole Bastila's mother and holocron thing. As I recall, it came to the point in conversation where I could have told Bastila to keep it, or to give it to her mother, but I chose some sort of ...

You need to go through the sewers in the Undercity. If you've made a deal with the Hidden Beks, you should be able to go down into the Undercity. There, you'll find Mission, and you'll need her in the party to get to the secret entrance in the sewers. Be sure to check your journal--sometimes it's ...

As for the Carth thing... I believe how it works is you have to get and complete the quest with his son on Korriban, then get to a certain point in conversation with him by the time you leave the planet where you get your fourth Star Map. Just keep talking.

The "Sith Passcard" should open the door to the Detention Area room. The Detention Area has the computer in the middle of the room and three closed doors, two of which are locked prison doors behind which members of your party are being held. I think the only way to open the prison doors is with the ...

This was a tough decision, since I really liked both games, and they each have their stronger and weaker points. But I think, overall, I had more fun playing the first one. I remember taking my time with the first one, trying to draw out the game play in spite of how anxious I was to see what ...

It's true. The LucasArts KotOR website has a character page with a couple paragraphs of background for many of the characters, giving some information that I at least wasn't able to find in-game about people like Darth Bandon and Calo Nord, but they're still kind of cliche and shallow. Oh well, it's ...

And of the choices, Calo's definitely the coolest in my opinion: he's really short, he's got those goggles, and the counting thing was pretty badass:
Calo: Go away.
Me: Nice job handling those Black Vulkars.
Calo: One.
Me: Hey, I just wanted to talk.
Calo: Two.
Me: Alright, I'll leave.
Calo: Smart.

This is all semantics, but while it may be impossible to program a droid to be evil, you can program a droid to perform actions that most would deem evil. And while HK-47 does whatever you tell him to do, he certainly makes it clear if he is pleased or disappointed by your commands. Anyway, the ...
