Hi Fable

Is your user account an administrator? Have you tried taking ownership of the folder, or resetting the folder securty rights? If it has been downloaded it may have some bad security ID's in the folder metadata.

Also have a look at this program: WhoLockMe Explorer Extension v2.0 beta (NT ...

Hi DW

UL should work quite well with that list. There are a ton of compatability patches for them whcih take care of most issues, just make sure your mod load order is set correctly, and the only one you should need is the Lost SPires patch (I think).

I've got all of them loaded and with the right ...

There's a bug in the patch that comes with the DLC that messes up the shader cache. You can fix it by going to My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Published\CookedPC and deleting the UPK file (LocalShaderCache-PC-D3D-SM3.upk).

Data corruption like this usually means the copy is being interrupted during the write process. If you can, try an alternate USB port on your computer (or Firewire if it uses that instead) and a different wall power socket. I'd also suggest trying the drive on another computer to see if it's the ...

My recommendation would also be for an AMD64 processor on the s939 platform. I'd also strongly advise the nForce4 chipset as this will give you SATA2 support and on most boards (MSI included) proper RAID functionality up to RAID5.

As for video cards, I stay stick with the devil you know. For me ...

According to Microsoft a 1305 error is a fault in InstallShield. However, in this case I'd suspect your CD-ROM drive simply can't cope with the copy protection as Xan suggested. If you can, try installing the game using a CD-RW or DVD-RW drive as their firmware can properly read sector error copy ...

All the HP notebooks I've worked on use standard 2.5" IDE hard disks and use a connection converter to the motherboard interface. It should be easy enough to remove the drive and check it as most modern notebooks have the hard disk in a fairly accessable spot.
And a related question which I didn't want to make a thread for: do AGP 8x cards work on AGP 1x/2x mobos?
No. AGP 2x cards use a different voltage for the interface, and to prevent damaging either the card or the motherboard, the AGP slot is slightly different.

The simplest method is the built-in "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard". If you simply point that at the old drive, it should be able to copy all your program settings and documents to the new Widnows installation. I'm not sure if it can move entire programs (eg. MS Office) but it's worth looking ...

50-60C is the normal temp for an Athlon XP under load, depending on ambient temperature. Most modern CPU's run at around this level, and the Prescott cored P4's run even higher (65-70C mark). It's also worth noting that most CPU temperature monitors are a bit inaccureate, as they are usually placed ...
