I think a berserker is clearly superior to a barbarian, unless I'm missing something. His berserker ability gives +2 to hit/damage, whereas the barbarians gives +4 str/con. After the underdark, your berserker will have 25str all the time, so the extra +2 is better than a str modifier. Also, the I ...

Healing has never been a problem for my F/M/T chars - between stoneskin, mislead and spell imm. divination, they don't seem to get hit much. But when you are getting whacked, nothing beats a hit from the old Rod of Resurrection. Full heal, and very fast (so you can use it at the last second). There ...

creative new ways to fail (spoilers)...
So my saga to finish a no-reloads solo game (inspired by two and the recent success of Gebhard Blucher on the alt.games.baldurs-gate newsgroup) continues. The last two failures were particularily frustrating (read NOT MY FAULT!).

Ranger/cleric and high-level ability bug?
I have a ranger/cleric that is trucking along. I hit 1,125,000xp and get to be 13th level as a cleric - and the Abilities button is lit up. Confused, I select whirlwind. I didn't expect to start getting them until 1.5M+ xp.
I next get to 13th level as a ranger, and this time no HL ability. I shrug ...

I don't understand why people take 6 people in a party - I find it annoying to shepherd the crowd around the areas, and 4 well-chosen characters are more than enough to make the game very easy. My last party consisted of a halfing F/T, Edwin, Korgan and Viconia, and they cruised through pretty much ...

Technically, the totem animals are not worth it. But then, technically, a fighter/druid is pretty much a total bust anyway. I think a ranger/cleric is almost always a more powerful character. I just kinda liked the idea of a totemic druid - and those spirit animals are kinda cool (and very powerful ...

As far as the cleric/thief, don't you find it incredibly annoying to have the thief ability button on the secondary menu? I wonder what moron decided that "turn undead" was a more useful function than "disarm trap" and put it on the main quick bar thingy? Is there anyway to change that, or a utility ...

I'm actually playing one of these right now, and I am (kinda) determined to dual at 15. While it's a whopping 3M experience, the 6 spells of every level is really nice. Also, it will "only" be 2M to get to level 16
as a fighter, so it won't be too brutal. Now I'm rethinking this as I'm not sure how ...

I'd avoid dualing from a fighter if you intend to play on to TOB. The high-level fighter abilities (GW et all) make all the difference in being a decent warrior. Dual class used to be the much better way to go, but I think multi-class is a much better option now, assuming you want to actually act ...

Can't let the mighty cheese thread lie fallow. I didn't notice this particular item in the list:
At the start, if you're soloing a character without clerical powers, 2 cure lights don't really cut it for healing. If you have a con of 17+ (and what cheese-meister doesn't?), and cast Draw Upon Holy ...
