During the course of the campaign, it's possible to use your spirit-eater feats on some of the named NPCs that you encounter, including your companions. If you do, then you'll gain special essences that can be used to enhance or create powerful pieces of equipment.

Below you'll find a list of those NPCs and what you can form with their essences.

• Araman's Essence: Gained from devouring Araman's soul at Eternity's End. Can imbue a ring with +10 intelligence.
  
  
• Founder's Essence: Gained from devouring the Founder's soul in the Academy Founder's Sanctum. Combines with two Pristine Earth Essences, two Pristine Fire Essences, and a Broken Ring to form the Ring of the Founder. You can also substitute a Pristine Power Essence for the Founder's Essence to form a Ring of the Red Wizards. (*)
  
  
• Gnarlthorn's Essence. As of version 1.10, this essence can't be obtained during the campaign. Combines with Rags to form the Gnarlthorn Bow. (**)
  
  
• Gulk'aush's Essence. Gained from devouring Gulk'aush's soul (via dialogue) in the Skein. Combines with a magical crystal (such as Hulmarra's Emerald) to form an Amulet of Pure Love.
  
  
• Kaelyn's Essence: Gained from devouring Kaelyn's soul at Eternity's End. Can imbue an amulet with +10 wisdom. (****)
  
  
• Myrkul's Essence. Gained from devouring the spirit of or granting eternal rest to Myrkul (via dialogue) at the Boneyard. Combines with a Broken Scythe Blade to form Myrkul's Wrath. (***)
  
  
• Okku's Essence: Gained from devouring Okku's spirit (via dialogue) at Mulsantir Gate. Can imbue a belt with +10 strength. (****)
  
  
• One of Many's Essence: Gained from devouring One of Many's spirit (via dialogue) after dealing with Myrkul in the Boneyard. Can imbue a belt with +10 strength. (****)
  
  
• Safiya's Essence: Gained from devouring Safiya's soul if you battle her at the same time as the Founder in the Academy Founder's Sanctum. Can imbue a helmet with +10 intelligence. (****)
  
  
• Shadow of the Void's Essence: Gained from devouring the spirit of or granting eternal rest to a Shadow of the Void while in the furnace room of the Death God's Vault. Imbues a weapon with Damage Bonus: Cold 6d6 and Damage Vulnerability: Fire 25% Damage Weakness. Imbues armor with Damage Immunity: Cold 100% Immunity Bonus and Damage Vulnerability: Fire 25% Damage Weakness.
  
  
• Shape of Fire Essence: Gained from devouring the spirit of the Shape of Fire (via dialogue) in the Burning Grove. Imbues a weapon with Damage Bonus: Fire 6d6 and Damage Vulnerability: Cold 25% Damage Weakness. Imbues armor with Damage Immunity: Fire 100% Immunity Bonus and Damage Vulnerability: Cold 25% Damage Weakness.
  
  
• Slumbering Coven Essence: Gained from devouring the soul of a member of the Slumbering Coven in Coveya Kurg'annis. You can claim up to nine of these essences. Five Slumbering Coven Essences can be combined to form Eyes of the Coven. Two Slumbering Coven Essences can be combined to form Lesser Eyes of the Coven.
  
  
• Wood Man's Essence: Gained from devouring the spirit of the Wood Man (via dialogue) in the Ashenwood. Combines with the Charred Branch (from the Burning Grove) to form the Staff of Ashenwood. Requires the Malleate Spirit feat.
  
  
• U'juk's Essence: Gained from devouring the soul of U'juk in the Wells of the Lurue. Combines with Adamantine to form the Ring of the Uthraki.
