Edwin was, as IMO still is the best.

Don't worry about rep, when you hear edwin's "I'm leaving" line, pick him and move him (ie: do an action with him) and that will interupt his speach sequence and he will stay with you until the next time.

In BG1 in Berhaust (sp.) had edited clerics summon 25 odd skeletons and spread them and my party around the town and attacked a peasent. Talk about lag

But you can stay hidden in shadows in plain sight of enermies in broad daylight if your HinS is high enough, which is better than in BG1
