Same thing happens whenever you get a character from the inn. Removing all your equipment and re-equipping them restores the problem. I don't know if the same thing happens for the patched version. I am playing the unpatched game.

Have you installed the official patch for this game? I believe one of the fixes in the first patch is that "NPC's (controllable) no longer permanently remove themselves from the party upon dying." I think that's what happened to you.

Wandering around helps me build up my athletics skill. I actually jump from mountain tops and slopes to build up my acrobatics skill. It goes up much faster that way. I also do pearl hunting.

i think keening is better. it's a short blade, therefore fast attack speed. add to that the cool enchantments it has.

poltergeist's right. if you have the tribunal expansion, a smith can use it to craft a complete set of armor for you. so better keep it.
