keep in mind, too, that you might be able to look up all the rules in the LM or the MM2, but that might not count (for a crafty DM) as "character knowledge." might have to convince your ref to allow your cleric a knowledge (religion) check to see if your PC knows any of this stuff. otherwise, the ...

MoP is might favorite late-game spell. i'm not sure if there's an "ammo" limit or a time limit on each casting--haven't bothered to track it. but late-game, the ammo lasts a long time--enough to kill two super shadows, usually. perhaps it's ammo is a function of TNO's level? not sure.

and it's ...

hahahaahhahah great thread!

my favorite is the exchange between you, the pirate king, and minsc while trying to talk your way into the asylum. IIRC, minsc asks about the absence of the pirate king's parrot, the PK decides that he is "stupider, or is it more stupid?" for talking to you, and sends ...

almost always run a girl, a smart, charming one with slick two-handed sword skillz. in BG2, usually dual to mage. but F/M/T is good times, too. i am naturally CG, so it's difficult to run otherwise.

completely blown away, first time. game sets standards for graphics, interface, score, liberty, and scope. still have fond memories of running around seyda neen, just looking up at the sky, being completely lost and loving it, marvelling at the stars and the sunset. bloody amazing.

agreed.

area effect spells are a must. don't move your group. just cast entangle, hold person, horror, confusion, many FBs, cloudkill if you have it. not too tough if you have 3+ casters.

just make your party an all hoobit group, like in the beginning escape from the shire, as in tFotR.

frodo as fighter/thief.
merry and pip as fighters
sam as a paladin

limit it to a four member group?
or add fatty bolger as...something else? hmm.
or add bilbo as a thief?
or add gollum as thief?
or ...

my first run through, i used a female redguard.

redgaurds get a +15 to long blade off the bat, which is slick.

custom class that specialized in STR and SPD.

sign was the shadow, IIRC, which allows one to ignore any stealth stuff, for the most part.

major skills - something like unarmored ...

IMO, it is not a great game. it may not be even a good game. the writing is pretty bad.

that said, it does implement the rules well, and it is beatable, unlike pool of radiance.

i had problems, also, getting engrossed in the mortuary--the opening is in some ways the least engrossing part (at least early on).

go to the smoldering corpse bar, which is in the hive area just south of the mortuary ...

horror - might be a randomly generated drop (esp. in the rubikon) - does the mausoleum mage have a copy of it?

black-barbed shield - if you butter up ravel enough, she'll give you some items which you can use to acquire this one.

adder's kiss - a random drop? the pestilence tome also ...

THAC0, in D&D parlance, = "to hit armor class zero"

it correlates to armor class insofar as that is the required number one must roll on a 20-sided die to score a hit on a target. recall that in D&D 2nd ed., the lower the armor class, the harder something is to hit. and so THAC0 increases as a ...

first time i played through, i loaded morte's inventory with all kindsa crap--the zombie's stone, some cheese, bits of junk, dirty rags, all that crap from the rubikon, etc. kept it all for the entire game.

pretty sure if none of it does anything, besides the junk, of course.

IIRC, mebbeth is the only one who can actually unlock the mage class for you, though others, like dakkon and the sensoria addict lady, can switch you.
