The best class for powergaming depends what kinda game you're talking about:

If you want a full party, then you want a group mixed of tanks and spell arsenals, with just a few thief classes thrown in.

The other option is to solo, where you need a combo character.

Several months ago (no idea how many) I think I read on the news updates that a band of people had released unofficial expansions for baldur's gate II (beyond ToB).

I've searched the site, and I can't find any mention of this. Does anyone know if this was just a dream, or can ...

Wow, so I'm not a total freak... or at least there's two of us freaks out there.

Does anyone know if there's somewhere we should post this problem to either get a solution for it or to have it considered in a patch?

I wasn't very familiar with where to report bugs/problems.

I'm a macintosh user who runs Throne of Bhaal on the program Virtual PC, so that might be partially responsible.

I was having fun cruising through ToB when I came up against a brickwall...

The first time I fought Abazigal, I killed him in his human state. He then transformed and quickly killed me. I reloaded, buffed up, and went back in to fight. This is when the problem came.

I found a scroll somewhere in the Maze Level that said the red and blue rooms contained "dead" or "wild" magic, although I am not sure which is which. I found this scroll when I was on my way out, so I never needed to be wary of it.

However, L, if you were to rephrase your questions and ask what the strongest classes to play in ToB were, you may get some answers.

And to answer the Animate Dead part of the question, instead of summoning more skeletons, it summons better ones (quality, not quantity, right?). As your caster's level increases, the HD of the skeleton also increases. Eventually, you'll get great Skeleton Warriors.

For killing that demon, Bolt of Glory is a very nice trick. Does quite a bit of damage to demons. But since it is a high-level cleric spell, it may not be available to you yet.

As I did my first go through without a walkthru, I had to back-track to be strong enough to defeat this point of the game.

Yeah, I did mean Statue. I think I was confusing it with the CUp as part of the Fallen Paladin Quest.

I've snuck all through the Temple of Lathander in Temple District, but can't turn up the item I was asked to get to complete the thieve's quest.

Despite the fact that they're not the most powerful class, I think Monks are one of the most enjoyable and most challenging to play.

Granted if you play either a Kensai/Mage or Kensai/Thief, you become a power-player that can handle most challenges alone, and that IS fun. But for me, it's also fun ...

Before doing any of this, first you should decide what your point of playing BGII is: Do you want to be a power-player, or do you want to be a role-player.

It should give you help no matter what party you have, although you may have to wait a few levels.

I haven't heard if they grow or not, but it would be wonderful if they did!

I have never gotten to use familiars, as I haven't played a magic user for my main character. If they do grow, that may be incentive to try a fighter/wizard in the future.

My Opinion:

Spend all the money <including the money for imoen> and buy tons of stuff. Then, do more quests to get more money. You'll probably want to do as many of the quests as possible before heading to Spell Hold to rescue Imoen.

I can't speak for ToB, but there is a Shortbow in SoA that IMO is one of the best weapons in the game.

Depending if you're going on to ToB, you may just want to consider choosing shortbow instead. True it takes a while to get the best bow, but there are other fun weapons while you wait.

He's correct.

To get your old skills back, you'll need to hit level 14 cleric (1.35 mil) and level 16 mage (2.25 mil). That makes it difficult for the cleric, impossible for the mage in SoA, but should be okay in ToB.

I would suggest goin through the Walkthru section of the site and checking if there are any quests you have missed; just got region by region.

Personally, I only got a few of my characters to max out (including my main character) the first time through, but I had missed many quests and avoided ...
