You will need some armor, you will have the points to spend. The amont of Xp you need to spend will be trivial after trial of elders or a visit to the moonbeasts. You will want MW, but I've never played with just light.

I agree about the Int stat, not really worth a huge investment other than early in the game. just get 30 asap and then use your points on more pratical skills. Unless some replies that Int makes magic more powerful.

I'm using CE, I did start a new char. I'm back about to start Trial of Elders. I checked the guards a while back and all was well.
