I've played through BG2 only once, and that was at Normal (cause I wanted to get familiar with the game even though I've been a table topper for years. As though who know me, know I am computer illiterate, and that includes games). Restarting my character, I will do it as Core though this time ...

For once, I actually think I know how to solve this. I had no problem with my character walking in, killing all the Golems, and then taking the eggs.

The guards aggro immediately when you walk out. Kill them. Try to do it from the door so the Matron Guards and 'em don't see you.

I've had the same thing happen to me. It's not a bug. I believe it may be that those are the effects of losing your soul to Irenicus. Notice how your character sorta bends back, like they were hit, whenever it happens? It's probably them reacting to losing their divine part.
