Topic: What role does our brain play defining us as humans?

I think that the distinction between the genetic 'hard wiring' of the brain, and subjective, or personal experience is a bit of a false one.

What can we define our experiences as?

Events in the objective world, it is agreed, but in experiential terms, what happens to us can only be defined by the ...

I very much agree with Chanak, forgiveness is an act of compassionate control and detachment, which it is noble to give when it is asked for...

But what is the value of forgiveness?

One can say 'I forgive you', but even saying this means 'I blame you' too. If the party were not to blame there ...

I am turned off by people talking in cliches. It means no thoughts.

It was very interesting, and showed how movies dont have to be like other movies....

There was not very much plot, no love interest, no three-quarters-of-the-way-through crisis resolution (other than the crisis of a hundred crazy samurai yakuza), and very little characterisation...

Also it is ...

I dont think that either items are really great news.

News has to be interesting, important and unusual.

Suicide bombings in Palestine are not unusual, and Princess Diana is not interesting...

It was back in '32 when times were hard
He had a Colt .45 and a deck of cards
Stagger Lee
He wore rat-drawn shoes and an old stetson hat
Had a '28 Ford, had payments on that
Stagger Lee
His woman threw him out in the ice and snow
And told him, "Never ever come back no more"
Stagger Lee
So he ...

The Vatican has historically opposed mysticism quite a bit, because it encourages religion from subjective experience rather than from authority (although there have been many Catholic mystics also), and the pope is elected by the cardinals AFAIK - but hierarchical is right.

The other posts were definately more difficult to read than the first. Is this because there is more context ion the first to deduce from (it being longer) or are the letter rearrangements possibly not actually random.

BTW - Teh is a real word.

An event can be observed objectively if it exists in the real world and we can experience it and verify it.

An event which happened in the past (until someone makes a time machine) does not exist anywhere in the world, and hence cannot be observed objectively, IMO.

Fable, this game is witty but not dry.

Accurate but not true
Silly but not ridiculous

and neither sure nor certain.

It is also difficult but not very. :)

Deep but not Profound (game)

Someone says "x but not y" (where x and y are replaced by words, obviously) and the statement is either true or false. Winning is basically working out the Rule.

The Rule is blindingly obvious once you get it, and difficult to get, and the game is fun.

BUT NEVER STATE THE RULE!

I start: Deep but ...

Stephen King is partly popular because he is easy - there is no trouble in reading a stephen king novel in two days without it having any impact on your other mental resources or time etc...

I think that ease of reading is not a quality at all...

But then again, maybe all the stephen king readers ...
