My memory is fuzzy but from what I remember from reading the books in NWN, Bane is slain by Myrkul or some other god during the time of strife and I think his portfolio was passed on to a mortal and then eventually to Cyric. I'll go look it up if I ever find the time but I'm tired as hell atm.

I would accept that cloudkililng dragons and such could be considered cheesy but when an item whose sole stated purpose is to defeat an enemy, I think it's safe to say it's not. I mean, that's saying Mace of Disruption +2 is cheesy.

Yep, I was a thief as well, and I always maxed out just hoping maybe it would pay off eventually, but it never did. The only time I end up using it was when I was fighting the dragons at the end and I used parry to tank while Grimnaw wreaked havoc from the flank.
