Why do the weapons in the game even need to be balanced? Taken to the logical conclusion which seems to be underlying this thread, if you insist that 2-handed swords should be balanced with 1-handed dual-wielding, then should dual wielding daggers, using slings, or a club and a shield be just as ...

I agree, for the most part, with your excellent analysis two. I would like to add, however, that you shouldn't ignore two things:

1. There are some excellent spears and halberds out there. While these still don't achieve the power of dual wielding katanas or long swords, they can sometimes be ...

I was ready to kill Melissan almost right off the bat. When she kept showing up saying, "Wait, don't fight... oh, I guess I am too late," I wanted to bash her head in (like after the battles with Gromnir and Yagashura). That has to be one of the all-time cheesey, cop-out story telling devices ever ...

It's pretty evil, but if you are going to do it, do it after you complete the Underdark.

You are actually *forced* to fight the Silver (even if you are actually good) if you mess-up the eggs quest. It's actually pretty easy to do this.

Nightfall: great idea. I like the idea of going through with such an unlucky bastard.

Ivan: I don't think Nightfall is really describing a Don Quixote character, as unlucky is different than mentally-ill. But I like your discription of Quixote and Pancho. On the alignment, certainly Don Quixote ...

You guys are too dependent on equipment. I had no problem with Bodhi's lair and a solo thief. Just use the thief like you are suppose to: Set traps in a previous room, use stealth to scout ahead, backstab, run like hell (ok, boots of speed are a requirement) back to the traps and the traps kill off ...

Don't you want to play through the game yourself first? If you just want a superpowerful character with tons of equipment, download ShadowKeeper or look up the cheats on www.teambg.com . But I still recommend that you finish the game once on ...

Soloing TOB with an gnome illusionist/thief, who started TOB at ~4 million exp after going through SOA, was very easy. I would say that it was easier than the game where I started a new PC (2.5 million exp?) with a group of six and just the equipment they give you.

So does that mean that you've fixed the offensive spin problem Sojourner? I enjoy playing with Haer'Dalis and it would be nice to see this ability work how it should.

Underdog: I would tend to agree with you. A 3D engine is anything but a requirement for a good CRPG (I've been playing them since the days of the first Wizardry on an Apple II+). That having been said, the developers should just go with what looks best, since 3D doesn't add to gameplay at all (like ...

I think the answer to the question is that the races weren't chosen from a power-gaming perspective. Dwarves are dwarves and orcs are orcs. They just are (based on a combination of myth and literature) what they are.

Some scrolls are hard to find, unless you complete nearly every quest of course. And why would the programmers want to go through all the work of coding spells if people didn't get to see most of them? Personally, I like the neatness effect of trying out new spells, and then I fall back on using ...

But what about Mazzy wielding the Tuigan Bow (+1)? With grand mastery and a fairly high level, she gets 5 attacks/round with it. But aren't attacks per round capped at 4? So, instead, I have her using the Tansheron's Bow (+3) which still gives her 4 attacks/round, has better to hit modifier, and ...
