How in gods name do you beat the king and guards without killing them !? I've tried to put them to sleep , too many of them any help on this one ?...

Cast Ice cold warrior on every body and go straight to the king, use skill that cause wound and the fight will be over before you know it.

I don't think you can actually sneak past him. You just have to avoid him by hiding in the rooms that he walks past.

i max(ed) out gwen's trap ability, was being attacked, clicked on a trap in gwen's backpack: no 'use' icon came up ? thanks what party should i take...

I never tried using traps but... did you try putting the trap in Gwen's hotkey bar? That's the key for using a lot of other equipment.
