Western Crevasses

Walkthrough

With your way blocked in the dungeon, you'll need to make a detour through the ice crevasses and the Frost Giant Village in order to reach the Dreadlord's castle. That means you'll only need to head east (from Exit A to Exit F) in this zone, but you might also want to rescue the Phlan clerk once again (#3), and help her to escape from the Black Circle.


1 - Packet of Documents

If you met the Phlan clerk during your explorations previously (such as at the Black Circle Headquarters), then at this spot you'll find a packet of documents on the ground. You'll record one of the missives as Journal Entry 69.

As you explore more of the crevasses, you'll hear screams from the clerk, and the rangers in your party will notice tracks indicating that the clerk has been kidnapped and is being dragged somewhere. You'll catch up with the clerk and her kidnappers in the middle of the crevasses (#3).


2 - Remorhaz

You'll encounter a Remorhaz here. It's a big melee creature, and it can swallow characters whole (killing them), so you should try to defeat it as quickly as possible. After the battle you'll find 4 random items, 10 gems, and 3 pieces of jewelry.


3 - Phlan Clerk / Kidnappers

If you met the Phlan clerk during your explorations previously (such as at the Black Circle Headquarters), then you'll find her here being kidnapped by five BC Lords and three BC Wizards. After defeating the kidnappers, the clerk will "thank" you for rescuing her, and she'll tell you her story, which you'll record as Journal Entry 44. Part of this story will involve a treasure to the west -- supposedly containing a "vorpal something" -- and the clerk will invite herself into your party (invisibly; she won't actually be a combat character), and she'll insist that you head to the treasure (at Exit C). If you don't follow the clerk's directions (which she'll give you periodically), then she'll eventually leave.


4 - Pouch

On the ground here you'll find a pouch containing 60 gems and 4 pieces of jewelry.


5 - Battle

At this spot you'll encounter three Legion Wizards and five Frost Giants.


6 - Battle

At one of these two places you'll encounter three BC Lords, two BC Wizards, two Legion Wizards, and three Legionnaires. After the battle you'll find 5 random items, 60 gems, and 3 pieces of jewelry, and you'll learn Journal Entry 2.


7 - Battle

When you reach this spot you'll get attacked by nine Mastodons and three Frost Giants, and then you'll get attacked by three BC Lords, two BC Wizards, one Legion Wizard, and two Legionnaires. At the end of the second battle you'll find 4 random items, 95 gems, and 1 piece of jewelry.


Exits
  1. Tunnel to Dungeon Level 1.
  2. Passage connecting the western side of this map zone to the eastern side.
  3. Portal to the Well of Knowledge (1,7). If you have the Phlan clerk with you when you reach the portal, then she'll jump through the portal after admitting that there wasn't really any treasure to find. When you go through yourself, you'll find a pouch from her containing 100 gems. You'll also find a note that you'll record as Journal Entry 60.
  4. Exit to the Ruins.
  5. Portal to the Well of Knowledge (7,14).
  6. Entrance to the Frost Giant Village.
