Background

At the Casteldaccia Abandoned Estate in Toussaint South (#1), you'll encounter a level 47 ghostly knight. The knight will hit you hard and not take any damage from Igni, so you're probably best off going with Quen and then wearing him down bit by bit. After defeating the knight, when you search the estate you'll discover a corpse holding Notes by a Vandaguilder from Filibert's Hanse. Reading the notes will trigger the quest.


Walkthrough

The notes will inform you that the ghostly knight -- aka Maximus Nonius Macrinus -- kept a hidden vault inside his estate, and that it can be opened by pulling on a candlestick lever. You'll detect the candlestick lever on the upper floor of the northernmost building at the estate. You'll need to have your witcher senses on so you can examine it. Pulling the lever will reveal a chest, inside of which you'll find the diagram for Toussaint Ducal Guard Officer's Trousers. Looting the chest will complete the quest.
