Side Quest: Wine Wars: Vermentino (BAW)
Did we miss anything in this location? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!
Background
You'll trigger this quest if you agree to help Matilda of Vermentino at the end of the quest
Wine Wars: Belgaard (Part 1).
Walkthrough
For this quest, you'll need to solve five problems afflicting Vermentino Vineyard (#1). These problems are listed below:
- Kill two level 38 archespores (#2). You should quaff
Superior Golden Oriole to make the battle much easier. Afterwards, you'll find a corpse holding a Heavy Brass Key and a Letter on Elegant Stationery. The letter will show that "C" is trying to sabotage Vermentino through the use of archespore seedlings. You'll need the letter if you want to trigger the quest
Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina (see below).
- Kill a single level 38 archespore at an Abandoned Site (#3).
- Kill two level 38 archespores at an abandoned logging camp (#4). When the workers return to the site, they'll clear out their dead, and if you look in the cart with the corpses (located on the road just to the north), then you'll find a Letter from Augustine Tonnelliay, which will indicate that somebody had been robbing the camp.
- Rescue the Vermentino armorer from bandits (#5). You'll have to defeat three level 37 bandits. Once freed, the armorer will return to Vermentino Vineyard (#1), where he'll become a journeyman armorer.
- Kill three level 37 rotfiends at a cottage (#6). Next to the cottage, you'll find the corpse of Augustin Tonnelliay. He'll have a journal in his possession, and if you read it then you'll see that he accepted a hefty bribe to give his barrels to a "mysterious gentleman" rather than to Matilda of Vermentino. The diary will also trigger the quest
Don't Take Candy from a Stranger.
After solving Vermentino's problems, you'll have to decide if you also want to help Liam de Coronata:
- If you do, then you'll need to work your way through the quest
Wine Wars: Coronata. While solving one of the problems for Coronata, you'll find Orders on Elegant Stationery, which, along with the Letter on Elegant Stationery found in the Vermentino quest, will indicate that a third party was responsible for the sabotaging of the two vineyards. This will trigger the quest
Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina, where you'll learn that the culprit was none other than Count Crespi, the recently-deceased owner of Belgaard Vineyard.
After completing
Wine Wars: Coronata, and ideally after completing
Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina as well, when you return to the ducal clerk at Plegmund's Bridge (#7), he'll decide that Coronata and Vermentino should run Belgaard Vineyard together. This will earn you your negotiated fees with the two vintners, plus 200 xp. It will also trigger the quest
Wine Wars: Belgaard (Part 2).
- If you don't want to help Coronata, then you should return to the ducal clerk (#7) without completing
Wine Wars: Coronata. The clerk will award Belgaard Vineyard to Vermentino, and she'll become the sole owner. This will earn you your negotiated fee with her, plus 100 xp. It will also trigger the quest
Wine Wars: Belgaard (Part 2).
Note: If you complete
Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina before completing
Wine Wars: Coronata or
Wine Wars: Vermentino, then the game will combine the two quests together to form the quest Wine Wars: Consorting, and you'll have to complete that quest before continuing on to
Wine Wars: Belgaard (Part 2).
