A few ideas I had:

1. Another Bard/kit (bards are interesting but there is only one available).
2. Fighter/Thief (SoA is dripping with mage/thieves, I'd like some variety).
3. A Barbarian. (Just for variety).
4. A Monk (variety).
5. Any BG1 NPC would be fine. Would be nice to see old friends again!

I have to agree at least in principle. This same thing is true in other games that I have played. Seems that game designers all agree that high end mobs will have high MR.

Well, I know less than most that post here about this but I have finished the game twice and tinkered around partway through a few times.

If you want to keep the 5 you have and use your main char as an archer like you said then I suggest adding Keldorn and giving him the girdle of strength and ...

2nd time through with a "melee heavy" group.

First group was

Skald (me obviously)
Minsc
Jaheira (tricked her out as a tank (strength belt too))
Yoshimo/Imoen
Aerie
Anomen

Second Group

Fighter (me)
Minsc
Keldorn (with strength belt and carsomyr now)
Jan
Aerie
Nalia

I consider this group to be more "melee heavy" because I have 3 true tanks ...

Well, I try not to judge how others play a game that they paid for but I will say that I can't imagine how that tactic would be much fun.

Why pay to be bored? Boredom is free and readily available. Image

Ummmm....

Why not start with the dragonlance trilogy??

I read it a long long time ago and liked it a lot then. Dunno if I would like it if I were picking it up for the first time today.

Rate NPCs yet AGAIN

I started a thread called "rate these NPCs" a while ago (it is a bit further down the thread list now) and thought we could revisit the topic now that I have a bit more experience with the game.

I hope the responses are as good this time.

Here were my original comments along with my updated ...

Well, he said that they were given a preview. May be BS but who knows. If it is true I will buy the game. If it is not true I will buy the game.

The BG series has been excellent so far and I am sure that since ToB is the "Swan SOng" it will be good.

Still wish we could have 8 people in a party ...

The good thing about allowing 8 person parties is that people that want to solo, can still solo. People that want a 6 person party can still have a 6 person party etc.

AND the weirdos like me that don't care how much exp we get etc can have the big 8 person party http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb ...

Well, we appear to have two votes against it. Image

I still like the idea though. It would allow me to mix a greater variety of classes into the same group. I really like that idea.

Good idea for BG3?

I am SURE this is not original but does anyone else think it would be cool if we could have more than 6 party members?

8 would be good.

If you could have 8 who would your party be then?

I generally used straight forward hack and slash on all the dragons (once I was high enough level for it to work).

Ans summon everything that can be summoned. Cannon fodder = Good.

The damn things cast some kinda poison AE spell too though. I used a protection from poison spell I bought in athkatla and had minsc beat it to deeath. There is a +3 Axe called frost reaver right in that room with him anyway.

I liked the Fire elementals and Insect Plague. She can be outfitted as a decent tank too. Not a great tank I guess but I used her as one and managed to finish the game.

I think it is 50/50 keep her or lose her.

Odddly enough, I had no problems at all wooping Bohdi....or Irenicus actually.

I just totally screwed the pooch in that mindflayer area (and a couple other areas as well).

Maybe I hit those areas too soon in the game. Who knows.

Parts of it seemed easy to me but other parts wooped my arse. I had been playing "core rules" up till the mindflayer city and then I had to turn down the difficulty. I just kept getting wooped to much.

There is a cleric spell (can't recall the name) that probably would have helped me in that area ...

I sure as hell did not think it was easy. I played through with difficulty set at "Core Rules" and I still did some furious saving and reloading. I had to turn down the difficulty for the Mindflayer area. Now I think I have a tactic that will make that area easier but.....

It was not easy for me ...

Well, just so you know, I really like clerics in BG2 but not really for their healing abilities.

The restoration spells were very handy to me and I agree that they are very potent offensive weapons.

As for the "mere mortals" comment I hope you don't think I am trying to say I am too good to need a healer http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/smile.gif

It just seemed more practical with potions for me.

I had people die too. Lots and lots and I did use the healers sometimes. I just thought that they ...
