Background
This assignment will start up immediately after the conclusion of the assignment
Overlord.
Walkthrough
You'll begin this assignment in conversation with Dr. Archer. He'll tell you some more about Project Overlord -- that the project was an attempt to gain influence over the geth, and that the rogue VI started out as his autistic brother David -- and then he'll give you some bad news. He'll tell you that the rogue VI is holed up in Atlas Station, and that to get to him, you'll have to end the current lockdown by manually overriding it at three of the project's facilities: Hermes Station, Vulcan Station, and Prometheus Station. Archer will override the lockdown at Hermes Station, but you'll have to do the job yourself at the other two facilities. These events are covered in the assignments Vulcan Station and Prometheus Station.
Note: While exploring the planet looking for stations, you might come across six Cerberus data packets. Five of these packets should be easy to find -- they'll be at man-made outposts usually guarded by turrets -- but one of them will be guarded by heavy mechs under the rocky bridge leading to Vulcan Station. If you can collect all six data packets, then you'll gain the "Data Hound" achievement.
When you finally reach Atlas Station, the rogue VI will decide to play some games with you. It will open and close doors around you (and make you click on one door to open another), and then when you reach the L7 Lab, you'll have to solve a puzzle. You'll need to summon the elevator to the 7th floor starting at the 2nd floor. The 3D diagnostic console will move the elevator down 3 floors, the secure computer will move the elevator up 3 floors, and the M-ONE console will move the elevator down 1 floor. That means you should use the M-ONE console once and then the secure computer twice. When the elevator reaches your floor, a geth prime and two geth troopers storm out of it and attack you.
Past the elevator you'll come to the Control Room, where you'll find the VI server console. When you activate the console, the world will go all TRON on you, and you'll enter a virtual reality. You'll be all alone in this reality, but the battles won't be all that tough, and you shouldn't have any trouble surviving.
When you reach the VR Lounge, you'll find another elevator, and when you call it up to you, just like before some geth will jump out and attack you -- only this time you'll only have to deal with a geth hunter and two geth rocket troopers. Then when you take the elevator down to the VR Core, you'll find David, and he'll begin attempting to upload himself into the Normandy. You'll have to stop him before the upload reaches 100%.
The battle with David will alternate between two stages. In the first stage you'll have to disable his shields by shooting the glowing green balls connected to his hub. Then in the second stage, with his shields down, you'll be able to attack him directly. Most of the time it'll just be you against David, but sometimes during the first stage geth troopers will appear as well. However, when you knock down the shields, you'll also remove the troopers, and so you can simply ignore them if you like.
After the battle, you'll be returned to regular reality, and you'll have to make a choice. You can take David away to the Grissom Academy (paragon) or you can leave him with his brother and Cerberus (renegade). The only thing this decision will affect is the message you'll receive from the Illusive Man at the conclusion of the assignment.
"It all seemed harmless."
