Background

You'll receive this assignment after completing the introductory Hammerhead assignment Rosalie Lost.


Walkthrough

From the assignment briefing, you'll learn that Dr. Cayce built a research station inside an active volcano on the planet Karumto (Yakawa / Caleston Rift), and you'll be asked to go there and investigate it. When you land on the planet, you'll start out inside the volcano, and you'll just need to find your way down to the research station at the bottom. This will involve making lots of jumps, and you'll also be given several chances to mine Iridium.

Note: If you want to pick up all of the available Iridium, then when you start out, you should take the left (two-way) path down to the bottom of the volcano, where you'll find two Iridium sites. If you then return to your starting position at the top of the volcano and take the (one-way) jumping path down, then you'll find the other six Iridium sites.

When you reach the research station, you'll need to exit the Hammerhead (by pressing the F key on the PC) so you can explore it on foot. You'll start out in the Docking Bay, and you'll need to head over to the Research Lab. If you examine the terminals there, then you'll learn that "this hellish planet is a star map that points to a Prothean site of major significance." However, when you activate the sensors in the lab, the volcano will become unstable, and you'll be tasked with escaping.

To escape from the volcano, you'll first need to return to the Hammerhead in the Docking Bay. Because of the damage sustained by the research station, you'll have to detour through the Crew Quarters to get there. Once back in the Hammerhead, you'll just need to take the ramp right in front of you, and then follow the only path available to you to get out of the volcano. Lava will slowly fill up the interior of the volcano, so while you'll see an Iridium site on your way out, you might need to skip it to avoid blowing up.

When you make it to the exit, you'll automatically complete the assignment and return to the Normandy.
