Background

You'll only receive this mission if you have the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC installed.


Walkthrough

This mission will start out with a message on your private terminal from Cerberus Information Processing. The CIP will inform you that they have a lead on the Shadow Broker, and since the Shadow Broker has been helping the Collectors, they'll encourage you to share this information with Liara T'Soni on Illium (Tasale / Crescent Nebula).

When you meet up with Liara, she'll be all excited about the news. During the ensuing conversation, you'll learn that it was Liara, aided by Cerberus, who facilitated the recovery of your body after your "death" at the start of the game. You'll also learn that a drell named Feron helped her out and was presumed lost to agents of the Shadow Broker (who wanted to sell your body to the Collectors), but that you now have a chance to rescue him. After the end of the conversation, Liara will leave for her apartment to plan what to do next.

When you follow Liara to her apartment (by taking a cab at the taxi stand at the southern edge of the city), you'll find the police there investigating a shooting. Nobody will know where Liara is, but a spectre named Tela Vasir will allow you to investigate the crime scene. You won't discover much on the ground floor, but when you go upstairs to Liara's bedroom, you'll find a picture "keyed to your ID." The picture will start out showing the Normandy, but when you touch it, it will change to a Prothean dig site, and you'll decide that the Prothean relics in Liara's apartment must hold a message.

When you touch the Prothean relic on the ground floor next to the staircase, it will open up to reveal a backup disk. When you play the disk, you'll witness a recorded conversation between Liara and a salarian named Sekat, during which you'll learn thatSekat uncovered some information about the Shadow Broker, and that Liara planned to meet with him at the Baria Frontiers offices on the third floor of the Dracon Trade Center. However, when you arrive at the trade center, half the building will explode -- "They just took out three floors to make sure she's dead!" -- and so meeting up with Liara won't be as easy as you might have hoped.

Inside the trade center, you'll see lots of wreckage and dead bodies. The elevator in the Lobby won't be working, so you'll have to take a pair of staircases to reach the Baria Frontiers Offices on the third floor. Once there, you'll start encountering lots of agents of the Shadow Broker, including engineers and heavies.

Eventually, in an Office on the fourth floor, you'll discover Sekat's body, and you'll meet back up with Vasir. Vasir will lament that she was too late to save Sekat, but then Liara will show up and announce that Vasir is the one who's been trying to kill her, and that she probably stole Sekat's data. This will cause Vasir to make a break for it, with Liara in close pursuit. Meanwhile, you'll be forced to shoot your way through a few more waves of Shadow Broker agents in order to keep up.

When you make it all the way back to the Entrance, Vasir will escape in her car, and you'll need to give chase. This is covered in the second part of the mission walkthrough.
