Background

You'll trigger this quest in the middle of the quest The Sunstone, when you learn that Avallac'h has a secret laboratory at the Pali Gap Coast in The Skellige Isles Southwest (Exit A).


Walkthrough

When you head over to the lab, you'll find Ciri and Yennefer already there. Yennefer will then cast a spell to open the front door (#1), which will wake up a level 28 golem guardian. You'll have to defeat the golem -- an elementa -- but Ciri will help you out, so the battle shouldn't be too bad.

With the way clear, you'll be able to search Avallac'h's lab. You'll find evidence that someone might have just been there (#2), you'll find some portraits of Ciri -- or maybe Lara Dorren (#3), and you'll find a genealogical tree tracing the Elder Blood from Lara Dorren down to Ciri (#4).

But then you'll eventually come to a bedroom (#5), where you'll meet a female elf. The elf won't have any kind words for Ciri, and she'll even claim that both she and Avallac'h despise her. Although it won't be clear if the elf is telling the truth or just trying to get under Ciri's skin, Ciri will take her words to heart, and she'll storm out. You'll then get a chance to encourage Ciri to trash the lab or leave it alone. The former option will make it more likely that you get a "good" ending for the game, while the latter option will push you towards a "bad" ending.

Leaving the lab will end the quest and earn you 300 xp. Ciri will then ask about Skjall, who you might remember from the quest Missing Persons. If you agree to accompany Ciri to visit Skjall's grave, then you'll trigger the quest Skjall's Grave. This side trip with Ciri is another way to trigger a "good" ending.
