Background

You'll trigger this quest after completing the main quests in Velen, Novigrad and Skellige.


Walkthrough

The first thing you'll need to do in this quest is return to Crow's Perch in Velen West. Depending on what you did during your earlier quests there, you'll either need to meet with the Bloody Baron or Sergeant Ardal. The person you talk to will give you permission to take Uma away, and he'll direct you to the stablemaster. The stablemaster will open the door to the stables, where you'll find Uma. This meeting will earn you 125 xp.

However, when you try to take Uma to Kaer Morhen, some Nilfgaardian soldiers will stop you and insist that you accompany them to Emperor Emhyr in Vizima. You won't be able to refuse. When you meet with Emhyr, Yennefer will be there, and between the two of you, you'll describe Ciri's recent movements. Emhyr won't be impressed with your story -- or with Uma -- but he'll still pay you 2000 crowns for your work. You'll then head for Kaer Morhen on Roach while Yennefer teleports there on her own. You'll give Yennefer Ciri's Phylactery before she leaves.

When you reach Kaer Morhen, you'll find Vesemir there. He'll give you an update about what's been going on, and you'll learn that Yennefer has been in the fortress for a while, ordering the witchers around while attempting to remove the curse. This conversation will trigger three new quests: Disturbance (help Yennefer set up her megascope), The Final Trial (help Lambert "fortify" the phylactery), and To Bait a Forktail (help Eskel hunt an encroaching forktail).

After completing the three tasks, you'll trigger two more quests: No Place Like Home (get drunk with Eskel and Lambert) and Va Fail, Elaine (cure Uma). Completing these two quests will also complete Ugly Baby and put you on the path to finding Ciri.
