Background
You'll receive this quest from Morwen in
Rockhammer (#1).
Walkthrough
When you ask Morwen if he has any work available, he'll tell you that a Golden Matron Roach has built a nest in the
Rockhammer Mine, and that her offspring keep getting into the mine's machinery and gumming it up. He'll then ask you to kill the matron, plus the Bog Roaches, plus any eggs you encounter.
The
Rockhammer Mine is located to the southeast of
Rockhammer (Exit A). You'll find the Bog Roaches in the northern part of the mine, near the Winch Room (#2). They'll mostly be grouped together, so be sure to rest up before facing them. If the battle goes poorly, or if you run out of mana, then you can always run away -- including exiting the mine completely -- so you can rest up and try again.
You'll find the Golden Matron Roach and the egg sacks (#3) in the tunnels to the east of the Winch Room. You'll have to bash the egg sacks, which is easiest if you have a bludgeoning or cleaving weapon. The matron will move around between the egg sacks. She has a lot of hit points, and she'll blind you with her poison, so you might need to attack and retreat a couple of times to finish her off.
Note: Remember to switch your attack mode to Power Mode when bashing the egg sacks.
Another Note: The Golden Matron Roach can't see in the dark, so if you have the Cat's Eyes or Predator Sight spell, then you can use it here to your advantage.
After clearing up the roach problem in the mine, when you return to Morwen, he'll reward you with 100 gp and 300 xp.
