According to historical records the Morden interbred Kurgans and Nawl Beast to combine the physical advantages.
While the male breedings normally had throrns to additionally rip bleeding wounds into the enemies, female War Hounds usually hadn't, that's why the Morden often struck them dead right ...

If the Succubus Mod is still installed/working (it has its own installation routine, also check related folders yourself once) the max hero level would be 125.

Indeed it's not standard, the Morden Snow Canyon is accessible by a mod (a 'mod expanding mod' actually).

@ kricius : Your approach is generally correct. Unfortunately this part of the mini-quest is a bit vulnerable as it seems. :(

Of course 'potion-food' may help here - it gives quite a lot of mana and keeps the damage moderate only, and less damage means generally less mana costs. But i guess such a pet still won't be totally mana-self-maintaining like a mage char can be (due to his/her mana regen/leech items).
