Background

You'll receive this quest at the conclusion of the quest Revealing the Unseen.


Walkthrough

To start off in this quest, you'll have to figure out where Arch-Mage Aren ended up after Ancano's explosion in the Hall of the Elements. You'll find Aren -- or rather his corpse -- outside in the college courtyard, surrounded by several students and teachers. When you reach the crowd, Tolfdir will come up to you and tell you that something's going on in Winterhold, and that you should check it out and make sure that everybody is safe.

On your way to Winterhold (located just to the south), you'll run into Faralda and Arniel Gane, and they'll join you. Then when you arrive in Winterhold, you'll discover that the town is being attacked by 10 magic anomalies (which look and act just like ice wraiths). The anomalies won't do a lot of damage, and you'll have lots of help, so you shouldn't have too much trouble in the battle.

Note: Be sure to loot the anomalies when you kill them. Each one will drop a random filled soul gem.

After the battle, when you report back in to Mirabelle in the Hall of the Elements, she'll order you to go to Labyrinthian and retrieve the Staff of Magnus while she and Tolfdir attempt to contain Ancano's activities. To help you out, she'll give you two items from Aren: Savos Aren's Amulet and a Torc of Labyrinthian. The torc is basically a key; you'll need it to enter Labyrinthian.
