Background

After you finish The Toll is Not Enough and return to Nadoret, you'll encounter some people mumbling about a vortex about the mage's tower. Master Brookbeard seems to have finished his experiment, but it did not go well. Approach the tower and talk your way past the guards (no checks required).

In the tower, head to the basement to find Hesindiana Zoltan and a frozen Master Brookbeard.


1 - Safety door

Hesindiana Zoltan won't go with you. Take the "key to the ritual room" from Master Brookbeard. It will automatically become a part of the door as you approach.

The puzzle is simple: turn the three rings so that the pieces on the outside can slide in. Align the central ring first, then the outer ring, then the middle ring. Click on the outside pieces once the rings are aligned correctly.


2 - The Experiment

When you approach the central area you are locked into a two-stage fight with fire elementals. There is a very short pause between the stages in which you should quickly apply and all healing and/or summoning spells you need. Burning salve is essential.

First you must defeat five fire spirits (50 VI). Each one nets you 8AP. Defeating all five nets you 20AP. Afterwards, a greater fire spirit appears (65 VI). If you're in any kind of shape he provides little challenge. Defeating him nets you another 40AP and a Ring of Life.

Master Brookbeard then rewards you with a Magician's Hat, closing the quest.
