Background
Thurstone Tollgate changes depending on when you visit it. Locations #1, #2 and #3 are available on your first visit while the main keep can be entered through the Toll is Not Enough quest. On your return visit, the Tollgate is under new command, and new quests open up.
1 - Lucia
Lucia's betrothed has gone missing. You will find his bones near the Kraken Newt at the end of The Toll is Not Enough.
Lucia will then be waiting near the Thalaria. You can then tell her the truth and give her the ring for 200AP, or lie to her and keep the ring and 100AP. The Engagement Ring is a non-magic item, you can sell it for a good price but it is not really worth missing out on 100AP.
2 - Innkeeper Holscrub
Holscrub sells Ferdok Pale Ale, Strong Schnapps and sundries.
Holscrub's husband, Gero, is gone, and the innkeeper believes he ran off with a pirate woman. You will find his wooden leg after you defeat the Kraken Newt.
Take it back to Holscrub. If you simple give it to Holscrub Missing! will be closed, but with a Human Nature check or by first asking for a reward and then refusing to just give it up, you can discover there's more to it, as the leg is the key to the chest. Do not pick the money, instead take the key (you don't need the map as you know the chest can be found at location #3).
3 - Treasure Chest
Using the key on the chest closes Missing. The chest contains 15D 6F, 9x small bale of cloth, gold chain and 2x gemstones.
4 - Commandant van Haring
Commandant Angwart van Haring replaces Commandant Bloomfold. He will give you the Bounty Hunt quest, a quest that never closes, in which he pays you 5T for silver emblems that you can pick up off pirates and special rewards for gold emblems. There are four gold emblems, each of which nets you 50AP and 10D, and when you give the Commandant all four you get 100AP and Epaulets. The emblems can be found by the following methods:
Hookensang emblem: upon killing him during Pirates & Elves or in the bathroom (#26) of
Hammerberg.
Soorman emblem: upon killing him at the end of the
Secret Harbor.
Eilif emblem: can be pickpocketed off Captain Hookensang after completing the Secret Harbor.
Fake emblem: can be forged by Bragan (#7 in
Hammerberg) with a Streetwise check and upon showing him another gold emblem.
When you try to exit the dialog he will also give you the quest "The Evil Book", where you have to find his nephew Hubert (#8) and get the book off him. See Hubert's entry for instructions.
Upon completion of the Secret Harbor, Angwart van Haring is joined by Ulwina Neisbeck, who asks to be told the way to Hammerberg. Talk to her to send her to get instructions from the captain, she can not be dissuaded. Van Haring will ask you to keep an eye on her, starting the quest For a Fistful of Ducats. You will then find her near talking to Thunderfist in the Captain's Wheel tavern in Hammerberg for 30AP. She wants her brother killed, you can find him to the south of
Hammerberg (#38). See that point for a further description of this quest.
5 - Sergeant Stone
Sergeant Stone is a trainer. He can teach you Offensive Combat I, Offensive Combat II, Defensive Combat I, Defensive Combat II, Mighty Blow, Sweeping Blow, Master Parry, Reload Mastery, Armor Use I, Shield Fighting I, Endurance I, Crossbows, Swords, Spears, Two-handed Axes & Maces, Two-handed Swords.
6 - Prancelot of Scufflewick
A young Prancelot of Scufflewick is as big a fool as the older version you meet in Drakensang: The Dark Eye. Listen to his tall tale on unicorn and orcs and then go to check out the Stone Circle (#7) for yourself.
7 - Stone Circle
After listening to Prancelot's story, you will find the Rolling Pin of Healing near the southern-most stone.
8 - Hubert van Haring
There's a variety of ways to get the book from Hubert. You can threaten him, then chase him and give him a spanking (I'm dead serious), you can fast talk him into giving it up, or you can teach him a skill (like blacksmithing, survival or pick pockets) if the value is high enough for the party member. Note that if you fail your fast talk test or try to opt out of the dialog he will run away and you'll have to chase him.
Returning the book to Commandant van Haring (#4) nets you 200AP and 1D, and you get to keep the book. The book is marked as a quest item but really has no purpose other than providing some hints to the resolution of the
Neckar Island quest.
9 - Captain Albass
Captain Albass will dock his Star of Ferdok. You can talk to your old friends, and trade with Captain Albass. He sells an Ironwooder and a Two-Lilies, both rare and expensive weapons.
Exits:
- Mooring spot of the Thalaria.
