Background
After completing the task
Solve the Egg Head Puzzle, Egg Head (#1 or #2) will tell you that he thinks the Arno van Eyck music he's been playing is only "ultra" hard core rather than "hyper." If you agree with this -- or, worse, say that it is only "proto" -- and if you pass a "challenging" Physical Instrument check, then you'll decide that the music track could use a better melody and more bass. This will trigger the task.
Walkthrough
To find the right melody, you'll need to head over to the hawthorn tree behind Siileng the merchant (#4). When you examine the tree, you'll spot magnetic tape in its branches. If you pass a "challenging" Interfacing check, then you'll collect
A Bundle of Magnetic Tape. You can make the check easier if you have
The Magnetic Dice Set, if you sang well during the task
Sing Karaoke, or if you pat the tree and work out the "tape release calculations" (requires 6 Visual Calculus).
To re-spool the tape, you'll need to take it to Roy in the pawnshop (#3). When you tell him that the tape could lead to the "next big thing" in music, he'll agree to fix it for you. Fifteen minutes later, you'll end up with
A Reel of Magnetic Tape. The
Empty Cassette Case isn't needed for this (although it probably should be).
When you deliver the tape to Egg Head, he'll be excited about the new melody, and he'll decide that it improves his track. This will unlock the thought
Arno van Eyck. Still, Egg Head will remember what you said about the bass, and he'll want to continue. If you've had enough, or if you evicted Soona from the church during the task
Help Ravers Start a Nightclub, then you'll end the task here, and you'll earn 30 xp for your efforts. Otherwise, you'll need to find a way to improve the bass.
To improve the bass, you'll first need to complete the task
Help Soona with Her Project. During that task, you'll hear a sound that even Egg Head will claim is too hard core. Afterwards, if you pass a "godly" Interfacing check, then you'll suggest to Egg Head that he "side-chain the beat." This will produce "the ultimate sound," which will complete the task and earn you 30 xp -- the same as if you had skipped the bass part. But listening to the new and improved track will heal your Health.
If you fail the Interfacing check, then you'll lose a point of Morale, but you'll get some options afterwards. If you make stuff up and "turn some knobs," then you'll add a +1 bonus to the check, and you'll be allowed to try again. If you pretend that Egg Head is missing "top-secret cop-tech," then you'll add a -1 penalty to the check.
