Background
You'll trigger this task when you complete the task
Getting the Body Down (#1).
Walkthrough
Before you can perform the autopsy, you'll have to be prepared. Kim will have latex gloves and you won't, so he'll offer to handle the "hands on" part of the autopsy while you take notes. If you don't have your ledger yet, then Kim will loan you his
Lieutenant's Notebook, and you'll use that instead. The game will assume you have something to write with, even if you don't.
Kim will lead you through the autopsy. It won't make much of a difference what you write down -- which means you can put down things that Kim, Cuno, Cunoesse or even you think up -- but in a couple of places (like the victim's age), you won't know the right answer, and if you manage to guess correctly in the report, then you'll get to brag later.
About halfway through the autopsy, you'll need to use
Chaincutters to remove the belt from around the victim's neck. If you don't have the
Chaincutters from Kim's car (#2) then you'll have to pause the autopsy and go fetch them. You'll need to pass a Physical Instrument check to use the
Chaincutters. If you fail, then Kim will cut the belt for you.
At the end of the autopsy, you'll get a Perception check to examine the body one last time. If you pass it, then you'll find a bullet in the back of the victim's skull, and you'll determine that he was shot through the mouth -- with the hanging just an elaborate cover-up for the true cause of death. This will net you
(Evidence) Fractured Bullet, plus trigger and complete the task
Find the Bullet before You Get Fooled, which will net you 30 xp. If you fail the Perception check, then you'll trigger the task
Fridge the Victim's Body.
Completing the autopsy will earn you 70 xp and trigger the task
Send Victim's Body to Processing. You can allow Kim to do this right away, or you can leave the body where it is, which will give you another shot at the Perception check (if necessary) or time to steal the victim's boots. See the task
Getting the Hanged Man's Boots for information about the latter.
