Confirmed Bachelor / Black Widow (1 Rank)
Prerequisite: None
In combat, you do +10% damage against male opponents. Outside of combat, you'll sometimes have access to unique dialogue options when dealing with the same sex.
Our grade: C. You'll face a lot of male opponents, especially late in the game, but you won't receive many new dialogue options.

Friend of the Night (1 Rank)
Prerequisite: Sneak 30, Perception 6
You are a true friend of the night. Your eyes adapt quickly to low-light conditions indoors and when darkness falls across the post-nuclear wasteland.
Our grade: F. This perk brightens up dark areas but makes them look worse (usually giving them an awful blue tint). It's much better to just use your PipBoy light or a Cateye med, since those effects can be turned off if you don't like them.

 |
Heave, Ho! (1 Rank)
Prerequisite: Explosives 30, Strength 5
Quite an arm you've got there, cowboy. All thrown weapons fly farther and faster for you.
Our grade: D. This perk is useful for characters specializing in Explosives, since it affects grenade launchers as well as thrown weapons, but it doesn't do enough to benefit anyone else.

 |
Hunter (1 Rank)
Prerequisite: Survival 30
In combat, you do 75% more critical damage against animals and mutated animals.
Our grade: D. This perk primarily affects geckos, lakelurks, dogs, and wolves -- but not nightstalkers or deathclaws, which are classified as abominations -- and so it's not very useful. Geckos can be tough in the early and mid game, but they're not something you should be building your character to defeat.

 |
Intense Training (10 Ranks)
Prerequisite: None
With the Intense Training perk, you can put a single point into any of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes.
Our grade: B. Attribute bonuses always provide a benefit, but you should be able to find better -- or at least more interesting -- perks out there. We'd only recommend Intense Training if you find that you don't quite meet the requirements for a perk that you really want.

 |
Lady Killer / Cherchez la Femme (1 Rank)
Prerequisite: None
In combat, you do +10% damage against female opponents. Outside of combat, you'll sometimes have access to unique dialogue options when dealing with the opposite sex.
Our grade: D. You won't face many female opponents, and you won't receive many extra dialogue options.
|
 |
Rapid Reload (1 Rank)
Prerequisite: Guns 30, Agility 5
Rapid Reload makes all of your weapon reloads 25% faster than normal.
Our grade: C. Speed increases are always useful, but this perk will only really help you if you use slow-reloading or frequent-reloading weapons like the
Cowboy Repeater or the
Gauss Rifle.
|
 |
Retention (1 Rank)
Prerequisite: Intelligence 5
With the Retention perk, the bonuses granted by all skill magazines last three times as long.
Our grade: D. Chances are, you'll only use skill magazines to beat dialogue checks or to hack/pick extremely tough computers/locks, and so a longer duration isn't really beneficial.
|
 |
Swift Learner (3 Ranks)
Prerequisite: Intelligence 4
With each rank in the Swift Learner perk, you gain an additional 10% whenever Experience Points are earned.
Our grade: F. If you're reasonably thorough, then you'll hit level 30 well before the end of the game, and so picking an experience bonus is just a waste of a perk.
