Perks: Level 6
Bloody Mess (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: None

With the Bloody Mess perk, characters and creatures you kill will often explode into a red, gut-ridden, eyeball-strewn paste. Fun for the whole family! Oh, and you'll do 5% extra damage with all weapons.

Our grade: C. A bonus to all types of damage is good, but when enemies blow up it becomes more difficult to loot them.

Demolition Expert (3 Ranks)

Prerequisite: Explosives 50

With each rank of this perk, all of your explosive weapons do an additional 20% damage.

Our grade: B. If you're specializing in Explosives, then this perk is a must have. Otherwise, you probably won't use grenades and grenade launchers enough to make it worthwhile.

Ferocious Loyalty (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Charisma 6

The power of your personality inspires die-hard loyalty from your followers. When you drop below 50% health, your companions temporarily gain much greater resistance to damage.

Our grade: D. This perk increases the damage resistance of your companions, and so it's only useful if you have companions, if your companions are likely to get hit, if you have enough health to feel comfortable staying under 50%, and if your charisma is high enough to meet the requirement. That is, the perk isn't very useful.

Fortune Finder (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Luck 5

With the Fortune Finder perk, you'll find considerably more bottle caps in containers than you normally would.

Our grade: D. If you're even reasonably thorough about picking up and selling stuff, then you won't have any need for extra caps.

Gunslinger (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: None

While using a pistol (or similar one-handed weapon), your accuracy in V.A.T.S. is significantly increased.

Our grade: C. This perk adds 25% accuracy while in VATS, but only for pistols. If you find yourself always aiming for the head, then you'd be better off selecting the Sniper perk, which works for all weapons.

Hand Loader (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Repair 70

You know your way around a reloading bench and don't let good brass and hulls go to waste. When you use Guns, you are more likely to recover cases and hulls. You also have all hand load recipes unlocked at any of the wasteland's Reloading Benches.

Our grade: C. This is the only way to learn the hand loader recipes, but you'll probably have an easier time just buying the ammunition you need.

Lead Belly (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Survival 40 or Endurance 5

With the Lead Belly perk, you take 50% less radiation when consuming irradiated food and drink.

Our grade: D. In other words, you'll usually save a rad or two. That isn't a big deal, and you can always solve your radiation problems with RadAway, which is cheap and plentiful.

Shotgun Surgeon (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Guns 45

Your precision with a scattergun is something to behold. When using shotguns, regardless of ammunition used, you ignore an additional 10 points of a target's Damage Threshold. Fire away!

Our grade: B. This perk makes shotguns useful, since it gives them a much better chance of beating enemy DTs. However, it doesn't affect energy weapon "shotguns," like the Multiplas Rifle.

The Professional (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Sneak 70

Up close and personal, that's how you like it. Your Sneak Attack Criticals with pistols, revolvers, and sumachine guns, whether they be categorized as Guns or Energy Weapons, all inflict an additional 20% damage.

Our grade: C. More damage is good, but chances are if you're going to inflict a sneak attack with a gun, it won't be with a pistol or an SMG.

Toughness (2 Ranks)

Prerequisite: Endurance 5

With the Toughness perk, you gain +3 to overall Damage Threshold. This perk may be taken twice, with the second rank granting you an additional +3.

Our grade: B. The more DT you have, the better. If you can get your DT into the 30s, then most humans won't be able to damage you.

Vigilant Recycler (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Science 70

Waste not, want not. When you use Energy Weapons, you are more likely to recover drained ammunition. You also have more efficient recycling recipes available at the wasteland's Workbenches.

Our grade: D. This is the only way to receive the improved recycling recipes, but just like with the Hand Loader perk, it's easier to just buy the ammunition you need.
