Background

You'll receive this quest when you read the "Contract: Jenny o' the Woods" note on the notice board in Midcopse in Velen West (#1).


Walkthrough

To learn more about the contract, you'll need to talk to Ealdorman Bolko and Agneta in Midcopse. They'll tell you that Jenny o' the Woods is a wraith who appears at dusk -- that is, a nightwraith -- and that she's been haunting the fields to the north of town (#2). When you examine those fields with your witcher senses, you'll spot a woman's footprint and a scrap from a dress, and you'll decide that a woman must have been running from something.

If you follow where the woman was heading, then her tracks will lead you to the west where you'll find a large pool of blood with an Assassin's Knife next to it (#3). Then further to the west you'll find the shallow grave where the murdered woman was buried (#4). While examining the grave, you'll a Letter Found in a Grave, which will identify the woman as Zula. The letter will also reveal that Zula was afraid of someone named Bokhai. Learning this information will earn you 25 xp.

When you ask the ealdorman about Zula and Bokhai, he'll tell you that they along with Zula's boyfriend Ontan left the village about a week ago. He'll also mention that Zula and Ontan used to meet in a clearing to the west of town (#5). In the clearing, you'll find a picnic spot with a campfire next to it. If you use the campfire at night (after 9pm), then a nightwraith will appear and attack you.

The nightwraith can be tough, especially if you're around level 10, which is the suggested level for the quest. We'd recommend using Specter Oil on your silver sword, buffing your weapons and armor at the armorer's table and grindstone in Midcopse, and using the Yrden sign against the wraith. When the wraith is in the circle created by the Yrden sign, she'll take something like 10 times as much damage, making her much easier. Otherwise, you'll just need to hit the wraith and try to avoid being hit back, and when she summons mirror copies, kill them quickly before they can heal her.

When the nightwraith dies, she'll drop a Nightwraith Trophy and more. Then when you return to the ealdorman, he'll give you your monetary reward, and you'll also earn 240 xp.
