Background

You'll receive this quest from Delores in Lindenvale in Velen East (#1).


Walkthrough

Delores will tell you that her family home has become infested with monsters, and she'll ask you to deal with them. For your reward, she'll give you a Lockbox Key, which will unlock a chest somewhere at the manor.

When you reach Reardon Manor (#2), you'll find that the place is being haunted by four level 7 wraiths. If you approach carefully, then you'll only have to face them one at a time, so with good use of Specter Oil and the Yrden sign, they shouldn't pose too many problems.

Note: If you didn't kill Letho in The Witcher 2, then you'll find him (plus some traps) at the manor instead of wraiths, and working with him will lead to the quest Ghosts of the Past.

With the wraiths out of the way, you'll be able to search the manor. With your witcher senses on, you'll detect a few things of interest:

• Delores Reardon's Diary. You'll find this on the floor in a side building. It will describe how Delores fell in love with a man named Roderick, and how her brother Humbert disapproved of the match.
  
  
• Humbert's skeleton. You'll find this in the manor's cellar, which you'll discover down a staircase behind the southernmost building. You'll have to destroy a crumbling brick wall (using Aard or your weapon) to get to the skeleton. Also in the room, you'll find some Loose Scraps of Paper. The scraps should contain a message from Humbert implicating Roderick in his murder, but they were blank for us.
  
  
• Sturdy Barn Key. You'll find this in a box in the main residence. It will allow you to open the side entrance to the barn, where you'll detect some carvings on a wall. The carvings will spell out "Delores," and right next to them you'll spot a hidden lockbox. When you open the lockbox with Delores' key, you'll find 100 Florens and earn 50 xp.

To complete the quest, you'll need to return to Delores (#1). You'll always receive 25 xp for your work, but if you found Delores' treasure and Humbert's skeleton, then you'll automatically inform her of these things, and you'll earn an additional 130 xp.
