Side Quest: Guess Who I Saw Today
Did we miss anything in this section? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Background

You'll receive this quest from Doctor Henry in the Jacobstown lodge.

Walkthrough

Doctor Henry will tell you that he's trying to cure the "mental instability" of the nightkin, and that the local nightstalker population might have a clue to the answer since they've recently learned how to stealth themselves, and since they share a similar brain chemistry as the nightkin. Doctor Henry will then ask you to investigate Charleston Cave (located to the north), where the nightstalkers have their lair. He'll also suggest that you take Lily with you. You'll find Lily outside next to the corral.

Note: From this point on, Lily will be available as a companion, but it won't make any difference if you take her with you to the cave.

Inside the cave, on a nightkin corpse, you'll find a Chewed Stealth Boy, which will explain how the nightstalkers were able to gain their stealth ability. Unfortunately, your discovery won't help Doctor Henry, and when you return to him in the clinic, he'll decide that his only recourse is to test the Stealth Boy Mk II on Lily. You'll then need to talk to Lily, which will cause her to run into Doctor Henry's clinic in the lodge (and leave your party if necessary).

Doctor Henry's experiment on Lily won't reveal much, but once he's completed it, the nightkin Keene will rush into the room and demand the specs for the Stealth Boy Mk II. You'll then have to defuse with situation. You can reason with Keene (if you have Speech 80), you can give Keene the specs, or you can kill Keene and the two nightkin with him. It won't make any difference to the game which option you choose.

Note: If you previously killed either of the nightkin who are supposed to accompany Keene into the clinic, then Keene will immediately turn hostile, along with Doctor Henry and Calamity. So if you're planning to empty out the super mutant population in Jacobstown, then you should wait until after you've completed this quest.

After dealing with Keene, when you talk to Doctor Henry again, he'll tell you that he's close to finding a cure for the nightkin, and you'll be given three options for how he can continue his experiments. You can allow him to continue testing or Lily, you can prevent him from testing on Lily, or you can tell him to use nightstalker brains instead (if you have Science 90). As with Keene, this decision won't have any impact on the game, and whichever option you choose will end the quest and earn you 500 xp.
