Background

You'll receive this quest from First Sergeant Astor at Camp Searchlight. To get him to give you the quest, you'll need to ask him why he's still at the camp, and then ask him if there are any other survivors.


Walkthrough

Astor will tell you that many of the soldiers at Camp Searchlight turned into ghouls, and he'll ask you to "put them out of their misery." If you agree, then he'll offer you caps for their Irradiated NCR Dogtags, plus an "old rifle" should you find all ten of them. He'll also give you two RadAway and two Rad-X to help you survive the area.

You'll encounter the ghouls inside of Camp Searchlight. They won't be hiding or anything, so if you wander through the town you should encounter them all. Only ghoul troopers will have tags (glowing trooper ghouls and feral trooper ghouls will just have minor random loot), but you'll only find nine of the tags on their corpses.

To get the final dog tag, you'll need to enter the home in Camp Searchlight and talk to Private Edwards. You'll have several ways to get the tag from him:

• With Speech 60 or Strength 7, Edwards will simply give you his dog tag.
  
  
• If you tell Edwards that Astor wants him dead, and if you pass a Speech 50 check, then Edwards will go out and attack Astor (and his patrol), and you'll be able to loot the dog tag from his corpse.
  
  
• If you ask Edwards why he's still in Camp Searchlight, then he'll tell you that he's afraid of radscorpions. Three or four radscorpions (including giant radscorpions) will then spawn outside the home. If you tell Edwards that they're dead, then he'll head outside and get killed, and you'll be able to loot the dog tag from his corpse. If you kill the radscorpions first, then Edwards will drop or give you his dog tag when he leaves (unless you lie and send him to Astor, and then you'll have to loot it from his corpse).
  
  
• After meeting with Edwards, you can return to Astor and learn that Ranger Station Echo accepts ghouls. If you relay this information to Edwards, then he'll drop his dog tag and head out, and you'll gain karma.
  
  
• You can also kill Edwards or steal his dog tag from him.

Regardless of how you get the dog tags, when you return to Astor after collecting all ten, he'll reward you with 225 caps, 325 xp, and a Service Rifle (in total).
