Background
You'll receive the quest "The Legend of the Star" from Festus in the
Sunset Sarsaparilla Headquarters (#1) when you ask him about "Star Info."
Walkthrough
Festus will tell you that you can find special blue star bottle caps on selected bottles of
Sunset Sarsaparilla, and that if you manage to collect enough of them, then you'll win a prize. You'll actually get a better introduction to the quest the first time you find a
Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Cap. Almost right away, a man named Malcolm Holmes will come running up to you, and he'll tell you the legend of the caps and how a man named Allen Marks has been hunting down cap owners so he can add their caps to his collection.
Note: If you turn around and kill Holmes, then you'll find six
Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Caps on his corpse.
To complete the quest, you'll need to find 50
Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Caps. There are over 100 of these caps in the game, and when the blue side is up, they're pretty easy to spot. For a complete this of their locations, please look

Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Caps from playing Lucky Horseshoes with Festus (#1) and by drinking
Sunset Sarsaparilla (there's a 5% chance you'll receive a star cap rather than a regular bottle cap).
When you have enough caps, you'll need to hand them over to Festus. This will cause him to give you your reward -- the origin story of
Sunset Sarsaparilla! When you complain about this reward, Festus will admit that there's another prize as well, which you can reach through the hallway on his left. During this conversation, you'll fail the quest "The Legend of the Star" (there isn't any way around it) and you'll gain the quest "A Valuable Lesson."
Unfortunately, you'll quickly discover that the hallway next to Festus has been blocked by rubble. To reach the prize room (#5), you'll need to head upstairs (via #2 or #3) and then drop down through the hole in Paige's office (#4). Inside the prize room, you'll find the corpse of Allen Marks (with a holotape and
Pew Pew next to it), over 1000 bottle caps (in the Sunset Sarsaparilla crates), and a whole mess of
Sunset Sarsaparilla Deputy Badges. When you pick up the holotape, you'll earn 1500 xp and complete the quest.
