This part of the catacombs is no longer the burial chambers of the monks in Candlekeep but rather caverns which join the burial chambers to the surface. You'll meet several of Sarevok's henchmen in here and his plans should get much clearer by now. There are also several spiders around so if you don't want to meet them you'd best stick to the main route.
1- PRAT, SAKUL, TAM AND BOR:
Four of Sarevok's men who have been placed here to cover his escape. Whatever you say they'll attack you and the fight is not trivial at all. Prat is a very good spell caster and he'll be blurred when you meet him. He casts several invocation spells, like Fireball and Lightning Bolt. He also uses the Throwing Axe +2, which is a very potent weapon. Sakul is also a spell caster and even though he doesn't match Prat, he is quite capable nonetheless. The other 2 are missile weapons users and fire Acid Arrows and Darts of Stunning. One of your options for this fight is to have your main fighter cast a Protection from Magic spell on himself and drink an Oil of Speed. As soon as the fight begins, throw in a few Potions of Explosions or Oils of Fiery Burning. Then use missile weapons to finish them off. All in all, they are worth 4950 Exp. and they carry some good loot: Throwing Axe +2(returns to user), 2 Plate Mails, 15 Acid Arrows, 15 Darts of Stunning and the following scrolls: Chromatic Orb, Detect Evil, Luck, Resist Fear, Mirrored Image, Strength, Ghoul Touch, Haste, Dire Charm, Ghost Armor and Slow. There is also a scroll on Prat which explains a bit Sarevok's plan. It appears that he wanted to get rid of you because you became a serious pain and that he will be crowned Grand Duke in a few weeks (or even sooner!).
2- GREATER BASILISKS:
You'll find 2 Greater Basilisks around this spot and you'll obviously have to fight them(there is no alternative route). You have to drink a Potion of Mirrored Eyes(POTN38) or cast Protection from Petrification(SCRL15, SCRL73) on 1 of your fighters, else your party will be turned to stone by the basilisks and it won't be a very nice situation for you. Search their corpses after the fight as you can sometimes find valuable gems or necklaces.
3- DIARMID:
A Black Talon Elite who mistakes you for Prat and tells you everything you want to know: why Prat was waiting in the catacombs, who is really Koveras and that you need to return to the Iron Throne Headquarters to receive your payment (Southern part of BG). After the dialog you can kill this brat for some Arrows +1 and Arrows of Ice.
4- EXIT TO THE SURFACE:
Be sure that you've done everything you want in the catacombs and grabbed all the loot as you won't be able to return once you're outside.
