LOCATIONS:
1- PALIN:
A man who asks for your help against some wolfweres who are attacking a group of innocent villagers. Be careful as this is a trap. He leads you to location (2) and calls 4 wolfweres(1400-1800 Exp./*** Difficulty) to help him kill you.
2- PALIN AND 4 WOLFWERES (7000-8600 Exp./*** Difficulty):
They are going to attack you around this spot and a wise idea is to use some undead or summoned monsters to hold them back while you nail them with missile weapons. After the fight, search Palin's body for Farthing's dolly.
Enemy tactics: Palin doesn't change into a wolfwere and uses his bow to attack you. At the same time, his brothers chop you to pieces with their fierce claws!
Suggested tactics: Summon some monsters or undead prior to the fight greatly helps you avoid taking any damage. Also, using missile weapons is a good idea. Magic is not of much use as wolfweres are magic resistant, but enchantment spells(charm, dire charm, confusion, emotion: hopelessness, etc.) sometimes lead to very good effects and make the whole fight a lot easier.
3- MEYM:
A wandering rogue who warns you against Karoug, who seems to be super powerful. Karoug can be found on the last level of Balduran's ship at location (7).
4- SIRINE QUEEN AND 4 SIRINES (14000 Exp./**** Difficulty):
A pretty nasty encounter awaits you near this spot and depending on how you deal with it, you can get less experience but get away more easily or choose the hard way and collect more loot and more experience. The Sirine Queen is not as aggressive as her ilk and explains that she attracted Evan to her with her song because time had come for her to reproduce… Her song failed to maintain control over him, though, and he attacked her and tried to force himself upon her so that she had to kill him. You can either accept this explanation, in which case you will collect 2000 Exp. and Evan's body. You'll be able to pickpocket the Sirine Queen for some of the loot and walk away unharmed. The second option involves you trying to kill the queen. In this case, she summons 4 servants and attacks you.
Enemy tactics: They mostly use Improved Invisibility and Dire Charm spells, which can be quite annoying. Also, the Sirine's Queen AC is incredibly good. Despite her magic resistance, spells remain the best way to harm her.
Suggested tactics: Avoid getting encircled by the sirines. Instead, lead the queen to you on one of the banks so that you don't have to deal with all her servants at the same time. After the fight begins, put a few NPCs on each enemy with missile weapons and try to prevent the spell casting. Once the servants fall, the queen should be taken care of with spells such as Magic Missile and Chromatic Orb.
Loot: 2 Pearls, Pear Necklace, 308 gp., 40 Arrows of Biting and Evan's body. Also, each sirine has another Pearl and 5 Arrows of Bitting.
5- KRYLA AND JONDAL (2800-3600 Exp./** Difficulty):
A woman who asks you to avenge her husband, Jondal, who has been killed by some wolfweres, will approach you around this location. As you guessed, this is a trap and Jondal will soon appear once invited to lunch by his wife. Refer to the above mentioned strategy(location (2)) to defeat them if you're having any trouble.
6- DRADEEL'S CABIN:
Dradeel: The elven mage Dradeel, who was once the guide of the famous hero Balduran, has now become quite insane and takes you for a servant of Selune(Goddess of the moon, stars and navigation), his protector. He tells you how Balduran left Anochorome, a far away city in which they got into a dispute with the Cursed Lords of the city. Unfortunately, the men they recruited there to replace their dead crew members turned out to be lycanthropes and attacked them as soon as they landed on this island to resupply their ship. The crew was all killed and he has badly hurt himself. When he came back to his senses, it was almost too late as the ship had wrecked and caught fire. So he simply ran away from it and used this cabin to rest. He survived all these years against the wolfwere raids because of the few spells granted to him by Selune. If you could retrieve his spell book from Balduran's ship, however, he would be forever grateful to you. The spell book can be found on the 4th level of the ship, in a chest near Balduran's cabin. Dradeel also gives you a Wolfsbane Charm Amulet (+2 THACO/Damage vs. lycanthropes) to help you in your task.
Once you return with the spell book, he leaves immediately without even thanking you and you get 5000 Exp. You'll meet Dradeel later on once you have completed Kaishas quest and he'll help you leave the island.
Pickpocket: You can pickpocket Dradeel for another Wolfsbane Charm Amulet. This item comes in really handy when cleaning out Balduran's ship so I greatly recommend stealing it.
Chest: You can open the chest in the cabin for some good loot: 210 gp., Belladonna flowers, Holy Cloak and the Staff Mace +2.
7- BALDURAN'S SHIP:
1st Level:
3 Dire Wolves, 2 Worgs, 3 Dread Wolves, 2 Vampiric Wolves and 1 Wolfwere (7965 Exp./*** Difficulty): A pretty nasty encounter awaits you on this level of the ship. Refer to the strategy guide below if you are having trouble with it.
Enemy tactics: A full force frontal assault awaits you on this level. Some wolves even start between your party members, making the whole fight pretty nasty. You should first concern yourself with the vampiric wolves as they do quite some damage and can stun party members and with the wolfwere as he can do massive damage. Also note that vampiric wolves and wolfweres are immune to normal weapons.
Suggested tactics: Before entering the ship, be sure to Haste your party and to protect your mage well with such spells as Mirrored Image and Blur. As soon as you get inside, use the Wand of Monster Summoning or a summoning spell to prevent the wolves who are further from your party from reaching you. Then take care of the closer wolves and go to the ones who are chopping down your monsters once this is done. If you're still having trouble, potions of strength usually greatly help.
Chest (trapped): 320 gp., 10 Darts +1, Wand of Magic Missiles.
2nd Level:
6 Wolfweres and 1 Vampiric Wolf (10400-12800 Exp./**** Difficulty): Another nasty fight awaits you on this level. Refer to the abovementioned strategy if you are having trouble with it. Remember that summoning monsters is a must if you don't want to take massive damage.
Chest (trapped): Silver Dagger - Werebane (+1, +4 vs. lycanthropes), 423 gp.
Barrel (trapped): Oil of Speed, Wand of Lightning.
Crate: Bracers of Binding (cursed).
3rd Level:
3 Wolfweres and 2 Vampiric Wolves (8200-9400 Exp./*** Difficulty): This fight is a bit easier than the previous two but should be quite challenging nonetheless. Refer to the abovementioned strategies to handle it. Once more, Haste, Mirrored Image, Potions of Strength and other protection spells greatly help in this fight. Monster Summoning is also a must if you want to limit the damage.
Ammunition crate (trapped): Potion of Absorption, 2 Antidotes, Potion of Cloud Giant Strength, 5 Acid Arrows and 3 Potions of Healing.
4th Level:
Karoug, 1 Werewolf and 4 Wolfweres (14020-15620 Exp./***** Difficulty): The fight that occurs after the initial dialog on this level is mega hard if you are not well prepared. It is unavoidable, though, so you might as well take some time on level 3 to prepare for it. As soon as you access this level, Karoug greets you and tries to convince you that Kaishas is the real enemy. No matter what you say, however, he ends up by attacking you.
Enemy tactics: As soon as the fight begins, Karoug changes into a greater wolfwere and attacks you. He is really hard and has massive HPs and magic resistance. The only weapons which harm him are the following: Bastard Sword "Kondar"(you can find 2 of them: 1 on Aldeth Sashenstar and 1 in Ulgoth's Beard), Silver Dagger - Werebane(found on 2nd level of this ship), Long Sword +1, "Flame tongue"(found on 5th basement level of Durlag's tower) and the Sword of Balduran(found on this level of the ship in Balduran's desk). Since he is a wolfwere, he also regenerates over time. The woman who is near him when you enter is a spell caster but turns into a werewolf as soon as you hit her once. Karoug also summons 4 wolfweres at the back of the room who attack you.
Suggested tactics: Too much preparation is a term which hardly applies to this encounter. You should really take some time to prepare if you don't want to spend your time reloading. Before accessing this level, cast the following spells on your party: Haste, Bless, Chant, Remove Fear, Protection from Evil, Draw Upon Holy Might, etc. Also, have your mage protect himself with such spells as: Armor, Shield, Mirrored Image, Blur and Ghost Armor. Your fighters should be equipped with shields and swords which can harm Karoug(your biggest threat). Also have them drink potions of strength(Fire Giant, Cloud Giant or Storm Giant). As soon as you enter the 4th level, summons some monsters with a Wand of Monster Summoning near the middle of the room to hold back the wolfweres Karoug summons. When the fight begins, hit the mage once to turn her into a werewolf and avoid the spell casting. After that, concentrate exclusively on Karoug to destroy him. Once dead, his minions should fall easily enough.
Loot: Deladan (Maralee's baby), Shield Amulet, Cloak of Protection +1 and Knave's Robe.
Chest (trapped): Dradeel's Spell Book.
Desk (ground trap): Sword of Balduran, Balduran's Log Book and the Butter Knife of Balduran.
8- EXIT OF WEREWOLF WARRENS
9- KAISHAS GAN (420 Exp./*** Difficulty):
After completing her quest, Kaishas would have stolen your Sea Charts and let you fight the whole werewolf village. Fortunately, you were able to find a passage to this side of the island and now you can confront her. Despite what she said before, she has no intention of letting you live because you know too much. You have killed Karoug and brought her the Sea Charts, which is enough for her. So she attacks and you have to defend yourself. Once she is dead, pick up the Sea Charts and click on the ship's mast to bring you back to Ulgoth's Beard.
Enemy tactics: Kaishas changes into a Loup Garou as soon as the dialog ends. Loup Garous are generally as hard as Wolfweres, with a good amount of HPs and magic resistance. She also has a good THACO.
Suggested tactics: Use summoned monsters to hold her back and then nail her easily using missile weapons.
