Klauth's Lair

1 – EXIT BACK TO FIRE GIANTS LAIR (EAST)

Use the staircase from here to return back to the eastern domain of the Fire Giants Lair.


2 – KLAUTH THE ANCIENT RED WYRM

Here you will meet with Klauth the ancient Red Dragon. At first you can talk to him and he will give you some information about the Words of Power and the Creator Race. He will also let you know that he keeps one of the Words amongst his treasures. He will then ask you to perform a task for him in exchange for his Words of Power. He will ask you to bring him some Dragons Eggs from the other dragon around the Moonwood Forest. You can then decide what to do from here, you can either accept to help him or refuse. Going up against Klauth however, it is like putting yourself into an almost impossible fight, but there is a way to make things easier if you are planning to put an end to the evil Red Dragon's life.
By now you should have come upon a book called Ritual Book which explains the ritual that Klauth needs to perform to get himself a new young Dragon Body. The book however also mentions a way to weaken the Dragon and it is none else that trapping a Dead Dragon bogy inside the Dragon Sphere and then offering it to Klauth. Doing so will bring Klauth down to "badly injured" after devouring the fake Dragon Sphere, but this fight is far from over. You will still need to find a way and decrease his remaining hit points (which are still a lot) to zero and this is no easy task.
Once again some general tactics when fighting a dragon is to have someone else to take then damage while you attack him with ranged weapons. Due to the dragon's huge AC though you will need to use all the means possible to boost your attack bonus before you can actually hit him. For those that can set traps this is the place where you will need to lay your whole arsenal of traps around him but keep in mind that fire traps do not harm him, he is after all the Red Dragon. Having a tank henchman, summoned creatures and animal companions can prove useful as well. Stoneskins Barkskins and the like are almost a must especially if you going melee with the Dragon. Now for the clerics you should all know what to do in fights such as these. Memorize as many as Harm spells you can because you might not be able to successfully cast the spell on him due to his high resistance and you will need to try a couple of times. You might not even need the fake Dragon Sphere if you are a cleric but you will still need to distract him, again with henchmen, animal companions or summoned creatures, to actually get a chance to cast the spell on him.

When you eventually defeat the Dragon he will drop a key that unlocks the door to area #3, a vial of Dragon Blood and of course his head. You will need to bring the head of Klauth back to Gorgotha the Golden Dragon, if you decide to help her, for your reward. Also several chests will appear nearby once the Dragon is dead and they are full of treasures and powerful magic items including, possibly, one of the best armors in the game, the Red Dragon Armor.

There is however another way to obtain the Word without killing the dragon and the way is to help the Red Dragon by bringing him some Dragon Eggs from the other Dragon Lairs. Such eggs can be found inside the Green Dragon's Lair at Moonwood or inside Gorgotha's Lair at the Spine of the World, but you will still need to fight the dragon to whom you will steal the eggs and I suggest not to go up against the Golden Dragon because he is even harder than Klauth and there is no way to weaken her like you can do with Klauth. When you have some Dragon Eggs give them to Klauth and he will give you the key to his treasure room at area #3 which is where you will find another Word of Power.


3 – WORD OF POWER

When you have the key to this room either by slaying or helping Klauth you can help yourself with the treasures inside the chests here but also you will find another Word of Power. Once again when the Word is in your inventory Haedraline will appear and talk to you. Hear what she has to say and then use the portal that will appear nearby to return back to the surface. If this is the last Word, Haedraline will instruct to you immediately return back to Neverwinter before all is lost. Bringing the third and last Word back to Aarin and Beorunna's Well ends Chapter 3 and your final adventures will take place back to Neverwinter again.
