Overview
The Tops is one of the three main casinos on the
New Vegas Strip. After purchasing some chips from the cashier (#4), you'll be able to gamble in the casino, and as you win chips you'll also win some other prizes, including the
High Roller's Suite Key (after 7500 chips), which will get you into the High Roller's Suite (#13). If you win 10,000 chips, then you'll get barred from playing any of the casino's gambling games.
1 - Swank
Swank will give you some background information on the
New Vegas Strip, and if you have the Black Widow perk, then he'll pay you 100 caps. Swank is also involved in the quest
Ring-a-Ding-Ding.
2 - Benny
This is where you'll first meet up with Benny. He's involved in the quest
Ring-a-Ding-Ding. If you kill Benny, then you'll find the
Platinum Chip,
Maria,
Benny's Suit, and more on his corpse.
3 - Tales of Chivalrie (Upper Level)
You'll find a copy of
Tales of Chivalrie on a table here.
4 - Cashier (Upper Level)
To open the cage protecting the cashier, you'll have to pick a "very hard" lock. Inside the cage, you'll discover three "hard" lockers (one of which will have your weapons if they got confiscated) and a floor safe. You won't find anything of note (other than your weapons) inside the lockers and safe.
5 - Kitchen
If you can pick the "average" lock on the door, then inside the kitchen you'll find lots of food and drink items, including five bottles of
Nuka-Cola Quartz and 15 bottles of
Purified Water.
6 - Bartenders
You'll meet a couple of bartenders in the casino. They'll both sell you a standard variety of alcoholic beverages.
7 - Magazines
You can pick up three magazines in the Presidential Suite:
Meeting People (on a table near the entrance),
Tales of Chivalrie (on a counter in the kitchen), and
True Police Stories (on a nightstand in the bedroom).
8 - Pugilism Illustrated
On the table here you'll find a copy of
Pugilism Illustrated.
9 - Wall Safe
If you can pick the safe's "average" lock, then inside you'll find a
10mm Submachine Gun, a
Grenade Rifle, a
Power Fist, and more.
10 - Stage
Near the stage you'll run into Tommy Torini, the casino's talent manager and also its best (and currently only) stage act. He'll give you the quest
Talent Pool. As you progress through
Talent Pool, more acts will begin showing up on the stage, and their names will even appear on the marquee outside the casino.
11 - Room
Inside this room you'll find a copy of
Salesman Weekly (on a dresser) and Strip Letter 6 (on a table).
12 - Room
Inside this room you'll find a copy of
Programmer's Digest (on the desk).
13 - High Roller's Suite
You'll need to earn the
High Roller's Suite Key (by winning over 7500 chips from the casino) in order to unlock the door to this suite. Inside you'll find a copy of
Lad's Life (on the fireplace mantle).
Note: When you enter the suite, you'll trigger and complete the quest "Big Winner: The Tops," but you won't get a reward for this.
14 - Benny's Suite
Inside this suite, you'll find a copy of
Lad's Life (on the fireplace mantle) and a copy of
Salesman Weekly (on a shelf in the bedroom).
15 - Benny's Workshop
Inside this room you'll meet the robot Yes Man, who will give you a lot of information on how to take over the
New Vegas Strip. This information is a part of the quest
Wild Card. After meeting Yes Man the first time, he might leave the workshop and head to the outside front entrance of the casino. Later, if you pursue the
Wild Card quest, then you'll find Yes Man in the
Lucky 38 Casino.
Note: It isn't possible to kill Yes Man. Any time you destroy his body, he'll just find a new one (or perhaps repair himself) the next time you exit and enter the map area that he's in.
Also in the workshop you'll find a copy of
Locksmith's Reader (on a machine).
16 - Elevator to Sub-Basement
If Benny (#2) survives his encounter with you, then this is the elevator he'll use to flee the casino and head to the
Fort. You're not supposed to be able to use the elevator yourself, but if you kill Benny, then the door might open for you. However, you won't find anything of interest in the "sub-basement" (which is a part of
Vault 21).
