Background
You'll receive this mission at some point after completing the mission on
Horizon and after recruiting Thane.
Walkthrough
When you talk to Thane, he'll tell you that he has a son named Kolyat, who he hasn't seen in ten years. He'll then inform you that Kolyat has become "disconnected," and that he plans to hire himself out as a hit man on the
Citadel. Thane will then ask you to travel to the
Citadel so he can prevent his son from following in his footsteps.
When you arrive on the
Citadel (Widow / Serpent Nebula), you should start out by talking to Captain Bailey in the C-Sec offices. He'll tell you that a drell was recently seen with a "duct rat" named Mouse. You'll find Mouse standing in between the Dark Star Lounge and Rodam Expeditions on Level 28. After a bit of persuasion (including, perhaps, a renegade interrupt), Mouse will inform you that a crook named Elias Kelham hired Kolyat to make a hit, but that he doesn't know who the target is.
Note: You might also learn that Mouse sells Shepard VIs. This will allow you to ask Mouse for one, or demand a cut of the profits, but nothing will ever come of this.
To meet up with Kelham, you'll need to talk to Captain Bailey again. Bailey will set up an interrogation for you, and no matter what you say (or if you use a renegade interrupt), Kelham will give up the assassination target: a turian politician named Joram Talid, who is running for office using an anti-human campaign. Bailey will then send you to the 800 Blocks, where Talid can be found.
At the 800 Blocks, Thane will ask you to follow Talid while he stays in "the darkest corner with the best view." You'll have to use the catwalks in the district to keep up with Talid, and every so often you'll have to target him to let Thane know what he's doing. Talid won't move very quickly, he'll have a big, obvious krogan with him to make him easy to spot, you'll be given plenty of time to target him, and you won't need to look for bullets (since you won't be fighting anything) or other items (since only one item will appear in the mission, and you'll be able to grab it at the Starting Point before the timer starts), and so tracking Talid should not prove to be too difficult.
Note: If you fail to target Talid in time, or if you get too far away from him, then Kolyat will end up killing Talid and getting away without a trace. You'll still complete the mission this way (and gain the rewards listed below), but Thane won't become loyal to you.
Another Note: The only place where you'll have to talk to anybody is in the Stock Room. A stock boy will demand to know what you're doing in there, but some easy renegade and paragon dialogue options (or perhaps a renegade interrupt) will convince him to leave you alone.
Past the Stock Room you'll arrive at Talid's Apartment. If everything has been going well, then you'll get there before Kolyat, and you'll manage to disrupt his assassination attempt. However, Kolyat will end up inside the apartment with a gun to Talid's head. You'll be given a few options for how to deal with this, including using a paragon interrupt to disarm Kolyat or shooting Talid yourself. Regardless, you'll diffuse the situation, and Thane will come away happy (and earn the Shredder Ammo power). Meanwhile, Kolyat will end up in custody, but you might be able to convince Bailey to give him community service (+5 paragon points) or hire him as a special consultant (+5 renegade points).
